Scouting experiences are\nexchanged and ideas are shared, via the radio waves.\n\nThe event starts at 00.00 hours local time on the Saturday and con-\ncludes 48 hours later at 24.00 hours local time on the Sunday. Each\nstation can choose its own operating hours within this period.\n\nEach year during JOTA about half-a-million Scouts and Guides \"get\ntogether\" over the airwaves. Modern communication technology offers\nScouts the exciting opportunity to make friends in other countries.\n\nMost Scouts take advantage of the local volunteer efforts of amateur\nradio operators in their area. This is where you can volunteer your\nstation for scouting participation. You may also help by answering\ncalls on the air from scouts.\n\nAMSAT encourages our members to take advantage of JOTA to provide\namateur satellite demonstrations.\n\nThe World Scouting Organization in Switzerland posted JOTA\ninformation\non their web: http://tinyurl.com/3rfp2cn (www.scout.org)\n\nAlso, visit the World Scouting Radio Library at:\nhttp://tinyurl.com/5sz7tf5 (www.scout.org)\n\nThe Boy Scouts of America has several resources on-line for amateur\nradio stations participating in JOTA:\nhttp://tinyurl.com/6d93qb7 (Boy Scouts of America www.scouting.org)\n\n[ANS thanks the Scouting Movement for the above information]\n\n/EX\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-261.04\nAmateur Satellite Presentations Scheduled for Alaska and California\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 261.04\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nSeptember 18, 2011\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-261.04\n\nThis weekend AMSAT area coordinator Clint Bradford, K6LCS, is\npresent-\ning his 'Working Amateur Satellites With Your HT' session at the An-\nchorage Amateur Radio Club annual hamfest.\n\nAfter this look for Clint back on warmer turf in California where\nhe is scheduled for TWO 'Working Amateur Satellites With Your HT'\nsessions at PACIFICON 2011 in Santa Clara on Saturday, October 15.\n\nClint wrote, \"We had a great time last year - with a full confer-\nence room and several passes that we worked. Research and\ndevelop-\nment are at the core of the LT mission. LT seeks to enhance formal\nand informal education in STEM fields with the goal of increasing\nthe number of students in those fields of study and is currently\ninvestigating the development of a NASA-based massively multiplayer\nonline educational game (MMO).\n\nQuoting the Learning Technologies Project, \"There is increasing\nrecog-\nnition that these synthetic environments can serve as powerful\n\"hands-\non\" tools for teaching a range of complex subjects. Virtual worlds\nwith\nscientifically accurate simulations could permit learners to tinker\nwith chemical reactions in living cells, practice operating and\nrepair-\ning expensive equipment, and experience microgravity, making it\neasier\nto grasp complex concepts and transfer this understanding quickly to\n\npractical problems. MMOs help players develop and exercise a skill\nset\nclosely matching the thinking, planning, learning, and technical\nskills\nincreasingly in demand by employers. These skills include strategic\nthinking, interpretative analysis, problem solving, plan formulation\n\nand execution, team-building and cooperation, and adaptation to\nrapid\nchange.\"\n\nThe first learning game environment, Moonbase Alpha, a game scenario\n\nwith both single-player and multiplayer options is set on a hypothe-\ntical lunar outpost in a 3-D immersive setting.
