The ARRL rules \nonly allow one contact per FM satellite to count. AMSAT \nField Day rules allow one contact per FM repeater to count. \nThis includes the International Space Station, if operational.\n\nAO-51 will be configured to support Field Day operations. \nThe Field Day configuration on AO-51 begins on June 21 \nto allow stations to test their equipment and antennas \nat home prior to the event. This week Piraja \nwas able to copy the CW signals of Andre, ZS2BK \nshowing that a Brazil to South Africa contact is \npossible.\n\nThis contact is also close to the operational \nlimits of AO-7. The distance between the two \nstations is 4805 miles (7904 KM). Piraja says \nhe can also copy F2IL on many AO-7 passes. China experienced an Amateur Radio on the \nInternational Space Station (ARISS) contact on Thursday, \nJune 11. Astronaut Michael Barratt, KD5MIJ answered 19 \nquestions put to him by the students as an audience of \napproximately 465 people looked on. Extensive media coverage \nincluded seven television stations, three radio stations \nand ten newspapers.\n\n2.\tSuccessful ARISS Contact with Italian School \n\nOn Friday, June 12, children from several schools in  L'Aquila, \nAbruzzo, Italy took part in an Amateur Radio on the International \nSpace Station (ARISS) contact. Approximately 200 students and \nguests, including European Space Agency (ESA) and Agenzia \nSpaziale Italiana (ASI) representatives, attended the event. \nESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti gave presentations on ISS \nmissions and ESA/ASI activities. Astronaut Frank DeWinne, \nON1DWN answered 13 questions on the first pass and another \n7 questions on the following pass. Many television stations, \nincluding CANALE 5 and SKY, radio stations and newspapers \nprovided media coverage. Internet video streaming had \nmore than 6,500 connections.\n\n3.\tBelgian Students Spoke with Frank De Winne\nAn Amateur Radio operator on the International Space \nStation (ARISS) contact took place on Friday, \nJune 12 between Vrije \nBasisschool Terbank-Egenhoven in Heverlee, \nBelgium and Frank DeWinne ON1DWN on the ISS. \nTelebridge station ON4ISS \nin Belgium assisted with the contact. \nTwenty-two questions \nwere answered during the nine minute pass, delighting the \naudience of 400 children, parents and guests. Four television \nstations and two radio broadcast stations with national \nand regional audiences covered the event. During the main \nevening news, a detailed report on telebridge ground \nstation ON4ISS was broadcast by the national television service.\n\n4.\tAstronaut Training Status\n\nAstronaut Doug Wheelock passed his amateur radio licensing\n exam and was issued the callsign KF5BOC. He is scheduled \nto be part of Expedition 24 along with Shannon Walker, \nKD5DXB and Aleksandr Skvortsov. \n\nOn June 9, Wheelock also received Amateur Radio on the \nInternational Space Station (ARISS) training on basic \nradio operations.\n\n5.\tAustralia Journalist Takes Interest in ARISS \n\nA local journalist in Kingston, Australia has taken an \ninterest in Amateur Radio on the International Space \nStation (ARISS) and given great publicity to the program \nover the past three years.
