"content": "Hi all,\nI have followed this thread and \"we\" seem to have the same scenario in \ncommon. We were spoiled with\nthe HEO birds of the past. The LEO birds are fun and have their place \nand fill a void we feel. Others enjoy LEO's\njust fine and they are certainly entertaining to the Ham community in \nthemselves. I don't believe that AMSAT has\nabandoned any thought and engineering towards an HEO or MEO bird. We \nhave inherited the present\nmonetary and financial situations in assembly and \"launching\" of future \nbirds. \n If you read past editorials about our future, it might seem grim, \nhowever, the talks that are behind the scenes and\nagreements that are being hammered out could lead to a fruitful \nexperience for AMSAT. Reading these posts, beginning\nwith W7LRD, it sure is positive that he feels the way most of us do that \non a continuing basis in supporting AMSAT\nproviding a presence in the Amateur Radio Community as the catalyst for \nproviding satellites to be launched as\nopportunities arise. This is not something to be taken lightly. ITAR \nhas restricted us inconveniently in the Ham\ncommunity since hams have always shared thoughts on construction \ntechniques and designs in radios since\nHam frequencies have stirred with QSO's.\n I have attended many Symposiums and had discussions with all the major \nplayers and they need us to support them\nwith both financial and volunteer efforts to let them know what \ndirections we want them to take with this organization.\nSomehow, if you remember, we forget this VOLUNTEER organization (one \npaid staff, Martha) has provided this\nhobby with many years of satellite activity & adventures. It has only \nhappened with excited members doing all\nsorts of things to assist with assembling and funding satellites.\n The thoughts jotted down by these threads, again, seem to ring \nfamiliar with our group. Those that have volunteered\nrecently and in the past, need to keep hamsats alive by representing our \nthoughts as we are presently doing and realize the\nhierarchy of AMSAT \"IS\" listening and hears us as efforts in the \ndirections we want it to go are alive and well.\n73,\nDee, NB2F\nAMSAT Co-ordinator (NJ)\nPlease renew your membership, have your club join, or send in your \nmembership application now!\n\n>\n> \n>\n\n",
