Ward commented:\n\n“While you have a long way to go in funding the whole upgrade\nproject, we hope our grant will encourage organizations and\nindividuals to donate to ARISS. Yasme is happy to get that ball\nrolling.”\n\nARISS International Chair Frank Bauer, KA3HDO, noted that receiving\ngrants from more groups similar to Yasme can result in bigger\nsponsors being much more likely to donate funds and in-kind resources\nto the radio project. The 12 ARISS Delegates from around the world\nhad voted in August 2015 to move forward with the planning that will\nultimately develop all hardware needed for an upgraded ARISS radio\nsystem if funding could be raised. ARISS Chair Bauer, explaining that\nthe power converters are critical to the overall ARISS equipment\nupgrade, remarked:\n\n“The Yasme grant will jump start the project by allowing the ARISS\nhardware team to build a prototype converter, purchase critical parts\nfor the flight converters, and further develop the design. We will\ncontinue our pursuit of other funding so as to realize the completion\nof the entire upgrade project.”\n\nARISS-US Delegate Rosalie White, K1STO, thanked Silver for his\npersonal effort in delineating ARISS’s hardware needs and goals to\nthe Yasme Board. She added:\n\n“Garnering the Yasme grant is a major step in helping ARISS progress\nwith our fundraising for the upgraded system. We are elated to know\nthat Yasme has faith in ARISS and its goals of piquing the interest\nof young people in science, technology, engineering, math, space,\ncommunications, and amateur radio.”\n\nJust three weeks ago in mid-December, a group of ARISS-US team\nmembers were at Johnson Space Center solidifying plans for the design\nof this next generation radio system. Other groups and individuals\ninterested in supporting ARISS goals through a donation can contact\nFrank Bauer, KA3HDO, at [email protected] or can go to the AMSAT\nWebsite, www.amsat.org, and submit a donation directly using the\nARISS Donate button. ARISS rewards a beautiful ARISS Challenge Coin\nto donors giving $100.00 or more.\n\nAbout ARISS\n\nAmateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a\ncooperative venture of international amateur radio societies and the\nspace agencies that support the International Space Station (ISS). In\nthe United States, sponsors are the Radio Amateur Satellite\nCorporation (AMSAT), the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), and the\nNational Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).The primary goal\nof ARISS is to promote exploration of science, technology,\nengineering, and mathematics (STEM) topics by organizing scheduled\ncontacts via amateur radio between crew members aboard the ISS and\nstudents in classrooms or informal education venues. With the help\nof experienced amateur radio volunteers, ISS crews speak directly\nwith large audiences in a variety of public forums. Before and\nduring these radio contacts, students, teachers, parents, and\ncommunities learn about space, space technologies, and amateur radio.\nFor more information, see www.ariss.org, www.amsat.org, and\nwww.arrl.org.\n\n[ANS thanks Yasme ans ARISS for the above information]\n\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n\nBest Fist Nominations Due\n\nRay Soifer, W2RS, would like to thank to all who participated in\nAMSAT's Straight Key Night on OSCAR 2016.
