Meeting: Modern Challenges in Nonlinear Plasma Physics\n\n**********************************************************************\n\nFrom: Dimitris Vassiliadis\n\nMEETING: \"Modern Challenges in Nonlinear Plasma Physics:\nA conference honoring the career of K. Papadopoulos\"\nJune 15-19, 2009, Sani Resort, Halkidiki, Greece\nFirst Announcement\n\nIn the last three decades theoretical and experimental progress has led\nto a substantial integration of nonlinear effects in modeling and\nunderstanding of plasma dynamics. Particle acceleration mechanisms,\ncollisionless shocks, magnetic reconnection, and flow and wave\nturbulence are only a few of the facets of complex dynamics in space or\nlaboratory plasmas. Moreover, the realistic behavior of plasmas in\ngeospace, solar, and fusion environments is modulated by strong\ninteractions with adjacent plasmas or boundaries. Large-scale coherence\nemerges even in weakly-coupled, multi-scale plasmas. Accurate modeling\nand prediction of nonlinear plasma systems has demanded development of\nnew theoretical and numerical methods. The meeting will review recent\nkey developments in these areas and help chart the exciting future of\nnonlinear plasma science.\n\nConference web site: \n\nhttp://www.astro.auth.gr/~vlahos/kp\n\nAdvisory committee:\nR.C.
