"content": "If you are just trying to run a 16bit app on a 64bit Win OS. If its an\nMS-DOS application you can try DOSBox. If not then your options for running\non windows are to install a 32bit version of windows, as already noted this\ncan be accomplished with a virtual machine, or as a dual-boot. If you have\nWin 7 Pro or Ultimate look up \"XP Mode\". If not look at VirtualBox or\nVMware Player, you will need a copy of a 32bit version of windows and any\n32bit version will work. Another option is to use Wine for Linux, again you\nwould have to install a Linux operating system, and this again can be done\neither in a VM or as a dual-boot. One nice thing about Wine is that it will\nrun 16bit windows programs in a 64bit Linux. Interfacing with hardware can\nget tricky when running a VM in Windows.\n\nI have a 5 year old dell laptop running a 2.0GHz Intel Core2Duo (dual core)\nwith 2GB of ram and it handles both XP mode and Linux on VirtualBox just\nfine, there is a little lag but not enough to be an annoyance. On the other\nhand my newer Asus netbook running a 1.8 Intel Atom (dual core) with 2GB of\nram runs just a little on the slow side.\n\nI will note that if DOSBox doesn't make it work all the options are going\nto involve a fair amount of work and a lot of overhead. The simple fact is\nthat it is not trivial to maintain compatibility with the\nolder architectures and there simply isn't enough demand for it.
