There was as \"AMSAT\" parallel fd \"contest\". I cho se to let the gathering throng just listen to several ssb passes and they took turns turning the arrow. They seemed amazed at listening to the process as opposed to being part of it. I was tempted to say hi to many of my satellite buddies, however I already had my point. Maybe a \"official\" AMSAT contest could be considered in the future where you pass your \"current\" AMSAT number or whatever. Contests always seem to bring many out of the corner. Yep I heard you Glenn & Kerry. \n\nmy 2 cents \n\n73 Bob W7LRD/aka K7FDF-2a-WWA \n\n\n\n----- Original Message -----\n\n\nFrom: \"Bruce\" <[email protected]> \nTo: \"Carl Rimmer W8KRF\" <[email protected]> \nCc: [email protected] \nSent: Monday, June 27, 2011 9:24:15 AM \nSubject: [amsat-bb] Re: Satellite Contacts During Field Day \n\nyou can make only one contact per fm satellite per mode (this depends on the \nsatellite). if a satellite has a voice fm repeater operation on 2m/70cm as well \nas one on 70cm/2.4g then you could make one contact on each. otherwise, just one \nif only one repeater. if an ssb/cw bird, you can make as many as your little \nheart is content with. \n\n\nthe problem is that on field day, everyone out there is trying to make their ONE \nARRL bonus point contact. this clogs up the birds. the high power stations \noperating from home try to give everyone a contact. is this acceptable, is it \nnot? it is your decision as to the proper way a satellite is to be used on field \nday. \n\n\nAMSAT and adopted by the ARRL will allow only one satellite contact per FM \nsatellite per mode to try and give everyone a chance to get their bonus points. \nbut in real life, the FM satellites are very difficult to get that one contact \nunless you do it right at the beginning or end of your pass when there is less \nconfusion on the bird. this has been a continuous problem since i started \nparticipating in field days in 1993. \n\n\ndon't forget, the discussions that happen here on the bb are only read by such a \nsmall group of operators that the ones you are addressing are not even hearing \nyour comments and suggestions. even an article in the arrl magazine will not \nreach all the operators on the satellites as many are not even members of the \nleague. \n\n\ni am not trying to be critical of anyone that has commented in on the problem, \njust stating the facts and we have the same discussion every year. \n\n\n73...bruce \n\n\n\n\n________________________________ \nFrom: Carl Rimmer W8KRF <[email protected]> \nTo: [email protected] \nSent: Mon, June 27, 2011 10:51:43 AM \nSubject: [amsat-bb] Satellite Contacts During Field Day \n\nI have a comment regarding FD satellite contacts. If I remember \ncorrectly, it has been established that a station only make one (1) \nsatellite contact during the FD period so everyone can have a chance. \nMaking a contact or contacts on each of the available satellites during \neach of their passes is improper and not according to my understanding \nof the rules. \n\n-- \n*Carl W8KRF * \n_______________________________________________ \nSent via [email protected].
