    "content": "What is most important to consider is that there is only one choice, because of \nthe investment and low return there is because HAM radio operators don't want to \nspend money.  Yet, we buy antennas (isn't there only one source for patented \nantenna designs that we flock to?), coax, power systems and lots of other things \nwhich are largely single sourced by manufacturers that do a great job creating a \nvaluable product.\n\nUltimately, that is the decision to make.  Is the money for the product the \nright value to pay?  If you really believe you can't get a chip, I think you are \nmistaken.  Can you get the cheap price in single quantities?  No.  But, they are \navailable last I had heard.\n\nAt this point, we are moving into the world of \"software\" components.  These are \nthings such as micro-controllers, DSPs and Codecs which are all put together to \ncreate a useful RF based device.\n\nIn the end, SDR is what we actually need to be focused on.
