One was\npurchased in 2004 when that model was released, and the other in\n2008 when I started working SSB satellites. Both of these radios\nwill transmit at 5W on high power, across 2m and 70cm, when I\ntried this into a dummy load.\n\nThese radios will default to the 2.5W power level when powered\non internal battery packs that don't provide some level of voltage\nabove 11V, but can transmit at 5W when you select that power level\nwith the PWR button. This was the case with the Yaesu NiCad\npacks supplied with the radios, and with aftermarker 9.6V NiMH\npacks I had been using for many years. I now use the Windcamp\nLiPo packs that are nomially rated at 11.6V. With the Windcamp\npacks, my radios power up and start out at the high (5W) power\nlevel, instead of having to manually select that with the PWR\nbutton. I also like the separate charging port for these packs.\nSince installing the Windcamp packs a few weeks ago, I have been\nhappy with how they perform. Charging is easier, and quicker,\nthan using higher-capacity NiMH packs as I did in the past.\n\n73!\n\n\n\n\n\nPatrick WD9EWK/VA7EWK\nhttp://www.wd9ewk.net/\nTwitter: @WD9EWK\n\n\n\nOn Thu, Nov 24, 2016 at 1:35 PM, jeffory broughton <\[email protected]> wrote:\n\n> Has anyone ever taken time to actually measure the tx power on vhf and uhf\n> of the FT -817 ?
