To mediate this\nsituation, the crew has activated the ARISS UHF radio that had been in\nstorage on the space station and packet is now operational on the UHF ham\nband on 437.550 MHz. This radio was installed by licensed ham and crew\nmember Shane\n\nKimbrough KE5HOD . The packet operation is using the same protocol as with\nthe previous VHF radio. Only the frequency band for operation has changed.\nHam operators using the system should adjust for the increased Doppler\nshift experienced when operating in the UHF ham band.\n\n\n\nThe ARISS team is currently working on Kenwood D710GA models to\nreplace and unify all amateur radios on board the ISS. Target date for\ndelivery is late 2017.\n\n\n\n\n\n* About *\n\n* ARISS*\n\nAmateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a cooperative\nventure of international amateur radio societies and the space agencies\nthat support the International Space Station (ISS). In the United States,\nsponsors are the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT), the American\nRadio Relay League (ARRL), and the Center for the Advancement of Science in\nSpace (CASIS) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).\nThe primary goal of ARISS is to promote exploration of science, technology,\nengineering, and mathematics (STEM) topics by organizing scheduled contacts\nvia amateur radio between crew members aboard the ISS and students in\nclassrooms or informal education venues. With the help of experienced\namateur radio volunteers, ISS crews speak directly with large audiences in\na variety of public forums. Before and during these radio contacts,\nstudents, teachers, parents, and communities learn about space, space\ntechnologies, and amateur radio.
