"content": "Problem fixed. First thing I checked in October before I headed south for\nthe winter was the rotor cable, and connection. All looked good. After\nchecking the cable with input from other setups, it became apparent that I\nhad a bad connection between the rotor and the control box. With that info\nin hand I climbed up to the rotor and swapped the az/el cables. Azimuth was\nthen working ok, indicating a 100% probability of a az cable issue. I then\ninspected the cable more thoroughly and found , behind some bushes where I\nhad about 30 foot of it coiled up it had been cut in two places with maybe a\nweed whacker. I think the gardeners helper cut it and then stashed it behind\nthe bushes to hide the fact. Anyway all is once again well in kb2m/2\nsatellite land. All I need now is a 70cm pre amp for up here....\n\nAll have a Happy New Year\n73 Jeff kb2m\n\n-----Original Message-----\nFrom: AMSAT-BB [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jeff Griffin\nSent: Saturday, December 24, 2016 1:05 PM\nTo: [email protected]\nSubject: Re: [amsat-bb] bad G-5500 rotor\n\nThanks for all the info. I think I narrowed it down to a bad cable(or\nconnector at the rotor) between the control box and the rotor. From the info\ngathered the rotor itself appears to not be the problem. I will get out\nthere tomorrow and do a quick cable check, and will know for sure.\n\n73 Jeff kb2m \n\n-----Original Message-----\nFrom: AMSAT-BB [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of KO6TZ Bob\nSent: Saturday, December 24, 2016 12:43 PM\nTo: [email protected]\nSubject: Re: [amsat-bb] bad G-5500 rotor\n\nJeff,\n\nI failed to paste in the readings on the last post.\n\n\nG-5500 rotor\n\nE-4 DOWN #16 WHITE\nE-5 UP #16 BLACK\nE-6 COM #18 BLUE\n\nE4 to e5 = 7.2 ohm\nE4 to E6 = 3.9 ohm\nE5 to E6 = 4.8 ohm\n\n\nA4 to A5 = 9.7 ohm\nA4 TO A6 = 5.5 ohm\nA5 to A6 = 5.5ohm\n\nA-4 LEFT #16 WHITE\nA-5 RIGHT #16 BLACK\nA-6 COM #18 BLUE\n\nBOB\nKO6TZ\n\n\nI'm back up here in the frozen north for the holidays and today had some\ntime to work on my G-5500's azimuth problem. I took my 5500 control box up\nhere with me from my station in Florida to help test. Now I've got it down\nto the Azimuth rotor itself. I used to have a repair guide for this rotor,\nbut I haven't worked on one in many years and 2 moves ago and can't find it\nanywhere including online. Does anyone have a copy they could email me? I\nhave the cable disconnected from the rotor control box. I'm interested in\ntaking some meter readings to try to determine what parts if any to order\nfrom Yaesu. Thanks in advance.\n\n\n\nEveryone have a very Merry Christmas, happy holiday, and a HNY.\n\n\n\n73 Jeff kb2m\n_______________________________________________\nSent via [email protected].
