Also try an\nexternal speaker as the one inside may have lost part of its cone.\n\nMost likely with 3+ decades of age, I suggest you replace all of the\naluminum Electrolytic capacitors, as they most likely have dried out over\nthe years. They are rated for a decade of service and three is pushing it.\nAs they are all of the same age replacing only the open one will begin to\nhappen at an increasing rate, so best to do them all it once. \n \nArt, KC6UQH\n\n-----Original Message-----\nFrom: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On\nBehalf Of Alan Sieg WB5RMG\nSent: Saturday, February 14, 2009 1:05 PM\nTo: [email protected]\nSubject: [amsat-bb] Re: help with yaesu 736 (audio)\n\nNick said :\n> My 736 in its 3 rd decade has low audio on all modes.\n> I have to turn the af gain to about 3 o'clock position.\n\nI've not had that trouble w/736, but I do have the \"Technical Supplement\"\nfor the FT-736R, which has block diagrams and schematics.\nThe audio makes it way thru several boards and connectors on it's way\naround to the speaker. I can easily scan a few relevant pages and either\nemail or post on my web site if you are so inclined to dig into it.\n\nMight check the level at the front headphone jack (and exercise the switch\ncontacts inside the jack) as well as the external speaker jack on the back.\nI've had output interruptus due to cracked solder joints on the external\nspkr jack before. Aged output blocking capacitors often result in lower\nsound levels as time goes by. I've fixed many a VHF scanner that way.\n\nReply direct email via amsat.org, and we can take this out-of-band...\nI didn't see your callsign handy, to reply direct.\n /;^)\n-- \n <- Licensed in 1976, WB5RMG = Alan Sieg * AMSAT#20554 ->\n <- http://www.somenet.net * http://wb5rmg.somenet.net ->\n <- http://www.linkedin.com/in/alansieg * My 'Day Job' ->\n\n_______________________________________________\nSent via [email protected].
