"content": "The short answer is yes ! \nIt works very good. Every portable operation I've\ndone was with an Arrow and SP-432-VDG and two \nHT's. One to transmit, one to receive. I ran the preamp\noff a spare HT battery, 9.6 volts. Worked just great. \n \nAlso have done some portable operating with a Heathkit\nHW-24 using the same preamp and Arrow. Running all of\nit from a 7 amp-hour gel cell. The battery would last a couple of\ndays, just using it on passes and running 10 watts on transmit.\n \nIf you aren't familiar with the Heathkit HW-24, it's a dual-band \nmobile radio, 10 watts or 1 watt on 2 meters and 440, full duplex \nwith memories, etc. If you find one used, it's a great little radio. \nIt will also do cross-band repeat and with a VERY simple mod\nwill do full coverage way outside the ham bands if you like to listen\nto other services. And yes it has P.L. and also scans. What else? \nThey were around $600 new but I've seen them for around $100 at times. \nI've had mine for about 20 years and it's still perking right along.\n\n73,\nJohn, K6YK\n \n\nOn Thu, 23 Feb 2012 21:32:24 -0600 Tom Schuessler\n<[email protected]> writes:\n> Has anyone used a preamplifier in a portable setup based on an Arrow \n> cross yagi?
