Here is the way I \nused to handle the problem. \n\n\nFirst, when the satellite came up, I would listen for all the stations I could \nhear and write them down. \n\nThen I would put my call out there with the grid, those that wanted me, knew I \nwas in a rare grid. \n\nAnyone that called me back, I put a check mark next to their call\nWhen they stopped calling, I would say, \"xy1xy, ve1a, ke5a, le5a, i have you, \nany others\"\nThen I would listen and write down all that I heard call me and go back with the \nnext list of those I had heard. \n\nObviously, this is a modified form of a two-way QSO because for a QSO to take \nplace you must hear them and they must hear you. Since I wrote down their calls \nand gave it back and they called me and said they wanted a contact, we had a \ntwo-way. Just not a two-way by itself, it was interrupted by many others. \n\n\nI found this method to be the most efficient way to give out a rare grid square \nto the most without spending a lot of time. And, if after giving out the list \nthe first time of who you heard, you have not heard your original friend, I \nwould call him then. All those that you acknowledged will now be silent because \nthey know they are in the log. \n\n\nSometimes we have to modify things for the situation. \n\n73...bruce\n\n\n\n\n________________________________\nFrom: Clayton Coleman W5PFG <[email protected]>\nTo: \"[email protected]\" <[email protected]>\nSent: Sun, October 2, 2011 8:56:54 AM\nSubject: [amsat-bb] Re: AO-51 pass at 22:06 UTC 2011-10-01\n\nSince I am relatively “green” myself to FM satellite rover operation,\nI will share an observation from a recent grid expedition in West\nTexas. I’ve observed a behavior that I refer to as “Armageddon grid.”\nThis means the rover operator is activating a grid for the last time\nbefore the world meets a fiery demise and doesn't know it until he\ngives his call and grid square.\n\nThis is an overview of an Armageddon grid activation:\n\n1. Rover station calls one of his friends or scheduled contact.\n\n2. Up to five stations immediately call the rover station in rapid\nprocession, not allowing a millisecond between calls for anyone to\nanswer. Never mind the opportunity of the rover’s original station\ncalled establishing contact.\n\n3. At this point, the rover station tries to complete his original\ncall (if/when the dust settles.)\n\n4. Typically what occurs is step 2-3 wind up in a loop for a period of\n2-3 minutes thus effectively reducing the usable time for other\nstations to make contact on the pass by one-third or more.\n\nIf operators would not treat working a rare grid as if the world is\ncoming to an end immediately after the pass, I believe rover stations\nwould have a much more pleasant time handing out new grids.\n\nIf you miss that desired grid today, doesn’t that leave opportunity\nfor you to work it on another day?\n\n73\nClayton\nW5PFG\n\n\nOn Sat, Oct 1, 2011 at 5:25 PM, Omar Alvarez <[email protected]> wrote:\n> What a shame this pass, just a few QSOs can be finished because all calling \n>others without give a chance the complete the current QSO.\n> What we need to fix that?....\n>\n>\n> I will wait for a better pass.\n>\n> Have a nice weekend.\n>\n> Omar\n> XE1AO\n> DK89df\n>\n>\n> ********************************\n> M.C.
