When\nthe packet module aboard ISS died in late 2017, the ARISS hardware\nteam was heavily involved in design and safety certification of the\nnew Interoperable Radio System (IORS). After basic troubleshooting\nand a few attempts to revive the failed module, we decided to\ndedicate our time to IORS and get it - with its packet and other\ncapabilities - aboard ISS as soon as possible.\n\nEarly this year, thermal testing of the first flight-identical IORS\npower supply showed that some changes to air flow were needed. This\nchange looked likely to delay our expected IORS deployment from late\n2018 to early 2019.\n\nWith some newly available time, the hardware team was able to dig up\nan original duplicate of the packet module, replace its battery, and\ntest the module to verify that it still works. Fortunately, NASA has\napproved flight of this identical unit with minimal paperwork, so we\nare asking to be on the manifest for supply mission 71P (a Progress\nspacecraft). Launch currently is scheduled for 31 October, with\ndocking on 2 November. Installation will depend on the crew’s busy\nschedule, but we expect packet will be operational again by the end\nof November 2018.\n\n[ANS thanks Dave W8AAS via AMSAT-BB for the above information]\n\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n\nStudents learn about Amateur Satellites at College Workshops\n\nTo popularise Ham Radio in western India two events were conducted\nback to back recently by Rajesh Vagadia VU2EXP Regional Coordinator\nAMSAT-INDIA.\n\nLDRP College Gandhinagar\n\n‘Ham Radio for GenX’ – Full day workshop with demo was conducted at\nLDRP College Gandhinagar (Gujarat – India) on 12th July 2018.
