The ARRL has just updated the Field Day rules for this year \nand we will make accommodations as they have. Class 1D stations will now \nwe allowed to contact other Class 1D stations. These are home stations \noperating on commercial power.\n\nThis will mean that there will be another group of certificates for \nField Day.... the top three stations operating from home with commercial \npower.\n\nThe problem I see with those operating from home attaching their scores \nto a club is that we only allow one satellite station to be operating at \na time. If you are going to attach your satellite contact to a club, I \nwill have to have the name of the club and only ONE home station can \nattach per club. This will keep the playing field rather equal as there \nare areas where there is only one satellite op around and other areas \nwhere there are dozens of satellite ops. It would be unfair for an area \nwith a dozen satellite ops to pool all their home contacts towards one \nclub.\n\nI understand that one satellite op might work from noon to 2PM and \nanother satellite op at their home could take over and work from 2PM to \n4PM and yet another take over and work another shift, etc. This would \nmake it very difficult for me to score. That is why I chose only one \nsatellite home station could be attached to a single club.\n\nThere will also be no duplicate certificates. If you are attaching your \nscore to a club, then it goes towards club rankings and not home \nrankings. Nothing needs to be changed on the submission form, I will see \nif you are operating 1D and I will see the name of your attached club if \nany.\n\nThis is new and uncharted waters and hope everyone enjoys AMSAT Field Day.\n\nI suspect that this year with the rule change there will be way more \nthan the normal 20 submissions.\n\nBelow is the release from the ARRL.\n\n73...bruce\n\n\n With one month to go before 2020 ARRL Field Day, June 27 – 28,\nthe ARRL Programs and Services Committee (PSC) has adopted two temporary\nrule waivers for the event:\n\n1) For Field Day 2020 only, Class D stations may work all other\nField Day stations, including other Class D stations, for points.\n\nField Day rule 4.6 defines Class D stations as “Home stations,”\nincluding stations operating from permanent or licensed station\nlocations using commercial power. Class D stations ordinarily may only\ncount contacts made with Class A, B, C, E, and F Field Day stations, but\nthe temporary rule waiver for 2020 allows Class D stations to count\ncontacts with other Class D stations for QSO credit.\n\n2) In addition, for 2020 only, an aggregate club score will be\npublished, which will be the sum of all individual entries indicating a\nspecific club (similar to the aggregate score totals used in ARRL\naffiliated club competitions).\n\nOrdinarily, club names are only published in the results for Class A and\nClass F entries, but the temporary rule waiver for 2020 allows\nparticipants from any Class to optionally include a single club name\nwith their submitted results following Field Day.\n\nFor example, if Podunk Hollow Radio Club members Becky, W1BXY, and\nHiram, W1AW, both participate in 2020 Field Day — Hiram from his Class\nD home station, and Becky from her Class C mobile station — both can\ninclude the radio club’s name when reporting their individual results.\nThe published results listing will include individual scores for Hiram\nand Becky, plus a combined score for all entries identified as Podunk\nHollow Radio Club.\n\nThe temporary rule waivers were adopted by the PSC on May 27, 2020.\n\nARRL Field Day is one of the biggest events on the amateur radio\ncalendar, with over 36,000 participants in 2019, including entries from\n3,113 radio clubs and emergency operations centers. In most years, Field\nDay is also the largest annual demonstration of ham radio, because many\nradio clubs organize their participation in public places such as parks\nand schools.\n\nDue to the COVID-19 pandemic, many radio clubs have made decisions to\ncancel their group participation in ARRL Field Day this year due to\npublic health recommendations and/or requirements, or to significantly\nmodify their participation for safe social distancing practices. The\ntemporary rule waivers allow greater flexibility in recognizing the\nvalue of individual and club participation regardless of entry class.\n\nARRL is contacting logging program developers about the temporary rule\nwaivers so developers can release updated versions of their software\nprior to Field Day weekend. Participants are reminded that the preferred\nmethod of submitting entries after Field Day is via the web applet. The\nARRL Field Day rules include instructions for submitting entries after\nthe event. Entries must be submitted or postmarked by Tuesday, July 28,\n2020.\n\n\n\n-- \n\nBruce Paige, KK5DO\n \nAMSAT Director Contests and Awards\nAMSAT Board Member 2016-2020\n \nARRL Awards Field Checker (WAS, 5BWAS, VUCC), VE\n \nHouston AMSAT Net - Wed 0100z on Echolink - Conference *AMSAT*\nAlso live streaming MP3 athttp://www.amsatnet.com \nPodcast athttp://www.amsatnet.com/podcast.xml or iTunes\n \nLatest satellite news on the ARRL Audio News\nhttp://www.arrl.org \n\nAMSAT on Twitterhttp://www.twitter.com/amsat\n\n", "attachments": [] }
