Special software written and\ndistributed by the Satgate coordinator Andrew Sellers, G8TZJ is required\nthat automates WiSP and FBB to move mail between the Satellite and the\nterrestrial Packet network.\n\nUnfortunately, without a network of Satgate operators located strategically\nworld wide to forward mail internationally, it is impossible to provide a\nreliable service.\n\nLack of mail to upload and download or traffic has been the number one\nreason why the number of Satgate operators dwindled from 35 to 4. Many\noperators couldn't justify keeping their equipment operational with such\nlittle traffic. I personally feel as an ARES member that maintaining a\nreliable RF network is more important then monitoring how many messages I\nforwarded each day. \n\nNow that Satellites can no longer be used reliably to move digital data\ninternationally, it would appear that HF Pactor is now our next best\nalternative when the Internet is not an option.\n\n73 Harmen, VE3EMA\n\n \n\n-----Original Message-----\nFrom: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On\nBehalf Of [email protected]\nSent: Friday, April 27, 2007 7:43 PM\nTo: [email protected]\nSubject: [amsat-bb] Re: SatGates & PacSats\n\nWhat would be needed to put a satgate together and have it linked into the\nterrestrial network?\n\nI am currently working on getting JNOS 2.0 running on Ubuntu. I know that at\nthe \ntime that Satgates and the packet bbs' were popular, most of the bbs systems\nwere running either FBBS or Mysys (correct?) under dos and windows3.0/3.1.\n\nTHe packet network here in Michigan is starting to be redeveloped again and\nis\ntaking shape very well so far.\n\nJames W8ISS\n_______________________________________________\nSent via [email protected].
