"content": "Hyperterm PE version 6.3, which was a modest upgrade to the version shipped\nwith XP, is still available from various download sites. Hilgraeve has\nstarted work on it again after an 8 year lapse, but they are charging for\nthe new versions. Google \"Hyperterm PE 6.3\" and numerous sites will come\nup. Note that some make it sound as if it is a trial version, but if it is\nversion 6.3, it is a full version.\n\nThe trick about pulling off the EXE and DLL files is widely reported, but\ncan be iffy. A friend was looking for a terminal program to distribute on a\nCD along with some other stuff for an APRS project. He took my suggestion\nto do that, as it worked on my machines. However, some but not all Vista\nmachines choked on it with protection errors. The ones they tested when\nthey did the install worked fine, but that is not what they were looking\nfor. After some additional research, they went with PUTTY, which worked\nfine.\n\nAlan\nWA4SCA\n\n\n\n\n-----Original Message-----\nFrom: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On\nBehalf Of Andy MacAllister\nSent: 01 February, 2010 22:22\nTo: [email protected]\nSubject: [amsat-bb] Re: Fw: Re: Looking for free Terminal Emulator\n\nCharlie,\n\nI ran across the following info that looks interesting. 73 de Andy W5ACM\n----------------------------------------------------------------------------\n----------------------\nWhile Hyperterminal shipped with Windows XP, it however did not ship with\nWindows Vista (Boo Microsoft, Boo!). However that doesn't mean that you \ncan't\nuse it. What you can do is rip the following files from a Windows XP disc or\ninstallation;\n\nhypertrm.dll\n\nhypertrm.exe\n\nNow all you need to do is place them anywhere in your Vista directory and\nlink the shortcut to\n\nhypertrm.exe. Now you can launch it and it will first ask for Zip code and\nstate. Afterwards you can being to use Hyperterminal as usaual. If you don't\nhave a copy of Windows XP handy, you can download the file's I've ripped and\nuse it as well;\n\nhttp://www.keithdmitchell.com/Downloads/hyperterminal_vista.zip\n\nSide note, although I am using the Windows 7 RC1, I do see a placeslot of\nHyperterminal, but no application for it. You'll be happy to know that this\nalso will work for Windows 7 as well - *note, this works for 32/64bit Vista\nand Windows 7!*\n\n----- Original Message ----- \nFrom: \"Kevin Chudy\" <[email protected]>\nTo: <[email protected]>\nSent: Monday, February 01, 2010 8:41 PM\nSubject: [amsat-bb] Fw: Re: Looking for free Terminal Emulator\n\n\n\n\n--- On Mon, 2/1/10, Kevin Chudy <[email protected]> wrote:\n\nFrom: Kevin Chudy <[email protected]>\nSubject: Re: [amsat-bb] Looking for free Terminal Emulator\nTo: \"Charlie -K3VDB-\" <[email protected]>\nDate: Monday, February 1, 2010, 9:40 PM\n\nHow about Terminal:\nhttp://sites.google.com/site/braypp/terminal\n\nKevinN2JPE\n\n--- On Mon, 2/1/10, Charlie -K3VDB- <[email protected]> wrote:\n\nFrom: Charlie -K3VDB- <[email protected]>\nSubject: [amsat-bb] Looking for free Terminal Emulator\nTo: [email protected]\nDate: Monday, February 1, 2010, 8:52 PM\n\nI am looking for a FREE Terminal Emulator app. as Win7 64 does not\ninclude it as it did with XP. I want it to communicate with the LVB Tracker.\nCan any one recommend one?\n\nThanks\nCharlie\nK3VDB\n\n_______________________________________________\nSent via [email protected].
