"content": "Hi Simon,\n\nThis depends on the satellite and its attitude.\nFor instance, Delfi-C3 carries circular antennas (canted turnstile) and is\nfree tumbling. So you would need to switch polarisation as the satellite\nspins. FUNcube has linear antennas and also is free tumbling, so if you\nlisten to it with a circular antenna there is no need to switch.\n\nNote the following:\nCircular in the wrong sense gives 20dB of loss (listening to LHCP signals\nwith an RHCP antenna and vice versa)\nCircular to linear gives 3dB loss (listening with a horizontal / vertical /\ndiagonal antenna to a circular spacecraft or vice versa)\n\nNow if the satellite is oriented or spin stabalised towards the earth, the\npolarisation will be known, and matching the apporopriate polarisation on\nthe ground gives you the best signals.\n\nWouter PA3WEG\n\nOn Thu, Dec 25, 2014 at 8:17 AM, Simon Brown <[email protected]> wrote:\n>\n> Hi All,\n>\n>\n>\n> Is there a logical way to know which is the optimal polarization (left,\n> right) for a LEO?\n>\n>\n>\n> Simon Brown G4ELI\n> http://v2.sdr-radio.com\n>\n>\n>\n> _______________________________________________\n> Sent via [email protected].
