"content": "Hi Kent,\n\nWelcome to the sats. I just started myself a few\nweeks ago. AO-51 is quite popular and there are\nusually many stations calling when it is on mode V/U\n(Friday through Monday UTC). So if you are not\nhearing anything, even on a high pass, there must be\nsome problem with your receiver/antenna, or you are\nnot tuned to the correct frequency, or your tracking\nprogram is off and you are not listening at the\ncorrect time, etc. There's a nice AO-51 operating\nguide at:\nhttp://www.g6lvb.com/Articles/operatingAO51.htm\n\nThe other sats you can work with FM-only gear are\nAO-27 (daytime only) SO-50 (a bit weaker than 51 and\n27), and the International Space Station (although\ntransponder is often turned off).\n\n73, Bill NZ5N\n\n>>>Hello all, my name is Kent Frazier, K5KNT. I am\njust getting interested in\nworking amateur satellites. I just joined AMSAT on\nTuesday, 26 February\n2008. My current hardware is an Icom IC2720 dual band\nin my personal vehicle\nwith a Comet C767 dual band antenna. I also have an\nIcom IC-T22A 2-meter\nhand held with a Diamond RH77CA antenna.\n\nI've been trying to listen to passes of AO-51 over the\nlast week.\nUnfortunately, I haven't been able to hear anything\nsince Monday, 25\nFebruary at approx 01:04 UTC (Saturday 24 FEB 19:04\nCST). At that time, I\nthought I heard the call W9CPV.\n\nI'm currently using Satscape as my tracking software.\nMy Gridsquare location\nis DM91sk.\n\nAre there other satellites I could monitor with the\nabove equipment? Any\nsuggestions for making my first contact?\n\n73,\n\nKent R.
