"content": "It is my understanding that the prohibition against amateur radio \nequipment on Royal Caribbean ships does not apply to HTs. If you \nclick on the link \n<http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do;jsessionid=0000donywOR515YoExRqE5gjvpt:12hbioan0?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&snav=2&faqId=2717&faqSubjectId=334&faqSubjectName=Life+Onboard&faqType=faq>Are \nwalkie-talkies allowed onboard? at the bottom left of the same web \npage you find the following:\n\nQ: Are walkie-talkies allowed onboard?\n\nA: Dect phones (portable phones) are available to rent for $25.00 a \nweek on Radiance and Voyager class vessels. Guests may reserve a set \nat the Guest Relations Desk, (price is subject to change). Guests are \nalso allowed to have two-way radios, more commonly know as \nwalkie-talkies, for onboard personal communications. Basic \nspecifications are as follows: Up to 10-mile coverage range, Up to 5 \nwatts power, Internal Voice, Operated Transmission, No external \nmounting antenna.\n\nI have not had any problem operating satellites of Royal Caribbean \nship using my Icom W32A and an AL800 telescoping antenna. I would \nguess that the prohibition is in place to prevent amateur radio \noperating on HF where you have a run of coax and an external \nantenna. This type of equipment raises safety issues with the cruise line.\n\nAl Mattis N5AFV\n\n\n\n\n\n>URL for Royal Caribbean FAQ about Ham Radio.\n>\n>http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do;jsessionid=00003o0rq53G6oM8WSqih0e9rBV:12hbioan0?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqSubjectName=Onboard+Policies&faqId=2608&faqSubjectId=333&faqType=faq\n>\n>_______________________________________________\n>Sent via [email protected].
