I have been asking for quite some time for an \nupdate, ANY update on this bird.\n\nHere is the post for those who may have missed it:\n\n\n AMSAT-UK -- POSAT\n Written by G3YJO\n Monday, 18 September 2006\n Following the recent kind agreement of Consórcio SAT, the owners of \nPoSAT (PO28 or 1993-061D) which was launched on the Ariane V59 from Kourou \non the 26th September 1993, work has been progressing at SSTL and the \nSurrey Space Centre to switch transponder frequencies to the amateur \nsatellite service to serve as a voice FM transponder for use by all radio \namateurs worldwide.\n\n Unfortunately, recent investigations now indicate that the PoSAT \nonboard NiCd batteries are showing the effects of 12 years in orbit and the \napprox 100,000 charge /discharge cycles to which they have subjected and are \nno longer holding sufficient charge to operate the downlinks. This may mean \nthat, sadly after all, it will not be possible for the satellite to be made \navailable for amateur use.\n\n We fully understand the benefits that PO28 would offer radio amateurs \nand work is continuing at Surrey to see if there is any way to revive this \n'old lady'. Watch this space for further updates.\n\n Martin Sweeting G3YJO\n\n\n\n--- Original Message --- \n\nDate: Tue, 19 Sep 2006 09:29:29 -0400 (EDT)\nFrom: McGrane\nSubject: [amsat-bb] POSAT, PO-28\nTo: Amsat BB <[email protected]>\n\n\nGreetings\n\nTo G3YJO, Martin\n\nRegarding PO-28 and the NICAD batteries; Could the satellite operate\nindependant of the batteries in sunlight?\n\nreference:\n\nhttp://www.uk.amsat.org/\n\nthanks, pat n2oeq\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n",
