"content": "Hi Brad,\n\n your set-up is do-able. I'm putting together a K3NG rotator\ncontroller for my own station, but it may not be needed to start with,\nonly the southern part of passes would be of interest. I'm curious\nwhat the rotator model is. I'm using a Ham IV that I re-built myself,\nusing aviation lubricants, its been colder than -40 and even then it\nworked flawlessly. Going from pictures of Cambridge Bay, there doesn't\nappear to be any issues with terrain so a short mast should do.\n\n I use an 8 el quad on 2M and a helix antenna, left over from AO-10,\nAO-13 days, on 70 cm. The quad's beamwidth is narrow and if the\nantennae track most satellites they're workable to about 2 degrees\nabove the horizon without a pre-amp and 10W (less coax losses) on\ntransmit.\n\n Its a good time to work on the shopping list, as she has nothing the\nlist will include everything :-) I wonder what 6 metres is like up\nthere, she is well north of the auroral oval.\n\n 73 Ron VE8RT\n\nOn Mon, 13 May 2019 15:54:57 +0000 (UTC)\nMr B r a d via AMSAT-BB <[email protected]> wrote:\n\n> I have a 4 way antenna switch with a 65ft tower mounted yagi and vertical, a vertical right over the shack feed with hardline and 8ft pole with a very old yagi and tv rotator and the yagi on the nearby pole beats them all every time to hear the sats.\n> http://valleymedia.org/satchat/ham_sat_chatroom_antenna_review_-vhf-uhf-L-band-23cm-helix-.jpg\n> \n> \n> >As was stated multiple times in a very recent thread - omnis for sat work\n> >are a poor compromise!!    Even a small beam at a 15-degree angle will\n> >generally blow most omnis off the roof!  \n> \n> _______________________________________________\n> Sent via [email protected].
