"content": "Yes, very sad news!\n\nAO-51 has been like a work horse. It is the bird which got me into\nsatellites.\nI really have enjoyed it! \n\nThanks very much to the control team for the great work done and still doing\nto keep the Sat on service.\n\nI will miss it!\n\n73!\nHector, CO6CBF\nEL92\n\n\n\n________________________________\nFrom: Andrew Glasbrenner <[email protected]>\nTo: amsat-bb <[email protected]>; [email protected]; [email protected];\[email protected]; [email protected] \nSent: Wednesday, 30 November 2011 5:56 AM\nSubject: [amsat-bb] AO-51 end of mission\n\nIt is with a heavy heart I report that AO-51 has ceased transmission and is\nnot responding to commands. The last telemetry data indicated that the third\nof six batteries was approaching failure to short, and observations indicate\nthe voltage from three cells is insufficient to power the UHF transmitters.\nThe IHU may continue to be operative.  Initial tests with the S band\ntransmitter were also not positive, although more attempts are in order. We\nhave tried leaving the satellite in an expected state where if voltages\nclimb high enough, the 435.150 transmitter may possibly be heard.\n\nThe command team will regularly attempt communications with the satellite\nover the coming months (and years). There is always the possibility that a\ncell will open and we could once again talk to our friend while illuminated.\nThanks to all who helped fund, design, build, launch, command, and operate\nAO-51.  It's 7 year mission has been extraordinary. Please support AMSAT's\nFox-1 project, and other AMSAT projects worldwide with your time and money.\n\nFor the AO-51 Command Team,\n\n73, Drew KO4MA\nAMSAT-NA VP Operations\n\n\n\n\n_______________________________________________\nSent via [email protected].
