"content": "\nThe difficulty with mast mounted preamplifiers is that they have to be \nselected for a\nspecific electromagnetic environment.\nIf your environment is \"hot\" with a lot of ham activity, local pagers \nand FAA stations,\nthe preamp may not be able to handle all of the RF, unless it is \nsuitably narrow banded.\n\nSome preamplifiers are broadband and some are narrow band, where you \nwill be operating.\nIf your environment is quiet, most any preamplifer will work well.\nIf your RF environment is NOT quiet, you have to limit the preamp RF \npass band for your activity.\nOtherwise too much RF gets into it and raises the noise floor, reducing \nthe S/N\n\nLast time I tested a ICOM 2M preamp, it performed well, less than 1 dB \nNF with pro test gear.\n\nWhat does your RF environment look like ?\n\nStan, W1LE FN41sr Cape Cod\n\n\n\nOn 11/3/2011 9:18 PM, James Cutler wrote:\n> All,\n>\n> Does anyone have any recommendations on high quality mast-mounted preamps\n> for UHF?
