"content": "Hello Juan,\n\nI agree with you. The 6 digits locator here in Europe comes from the terrestrial communications rules and it has never been changed for satellites.\n\nOn digital EME modes, for example, the 4 digits is the standard worldwide and on cw EME is often not used.\n\nThe real question is why do we have to we have to transmit our locator:\n\n-locators awards (4 digits are enough)\n-to beam the station (6 digits are more precise)\n\nConsidered that we are beaming a satellite or the moon.... I think the second answer has not to be considered \n\n73\nFabio\nF5VKV\n\n> On 17 Feb 2016, at 08:20, Juan Antonio Fernandez <[email protected]> wrote:\n> \n> I can´t understand it.\n> My thinking:\n> - Any award needs 6 digits\n> \n> - Time on SATs is limited, Why to waste it trying to understand something\n> useless\n> \n> - Other places, such as USA, only use 4 digits from years\n> \n> - To wrap up, all are advantages\n> \n> \n> \n> Anybody knows some reason why should we follow using 6 digits?\n> \n> \n> \n> If there is not a strong reason, I think we should start using 4 digits\n> \n> \n> \n> Juan Antonio\n> \n> EA4CYQ\n> _______________________________________________\n> Sent via [email protected].
