I've always been in\nawe of Dr. Victor Kudielka, OE1VKW who, using 80286 (?) technology, was\nable to apply their work to predict the demise of AO-13.\n\n Prior to launch I don't think any of us had considered the\npossibility that asymmetries in the shape of the earth could cause\nfluctuations in the eccentricity of AO-13's final orbit that would, without\naffecting the spacecraft's total energy, lower the perigee to the point\nwhere re-entry would occur.\n\n Which leads me to wonder about Victor's status these days. I can't\nfind any reference to him post 2013. Any info would be appreciated.\n\n73, Martin, k2ubc\n\n\nOn Wed, Feb 28, 2018 at 8:00 AM, Robert McGwier <[email protected]> wrote:\n\n> Yes, AO 13.\n>\n> On Tue, Feb 27, 2018 at 1:09 PM Gregory Beat <[email protected]> wrote:\n>\n> > Jeopardy question?\n> >\n> > Oscar 13, AO-13\n> >\n> > greg, w9gb\n> >\n> > ===\n> > Subject: [amsat-bb] Yoshihide Kozai\n> >\n> > The long scientific life of Kozai ended recently with his death at ~90\n> > years old\n> >\n> > Kozai and Lidov proposed a mechanism for why the Luna 3 probe decayed\n> into\n> > the Earth's atmosphere when everyone believed it would last \"forever\".\n> >\n> > This same mechanism describes the death of which amateur spacecraft?\n> >\n> > Bob\n> > N4HY\n> >\n> > Sent from iPad Air\n> >\n> --\n> Bob McGwier\n> Founder, Federated Wireless, Inc\n> Founder and Technical Advisor, HawkEye 360, Inc\n> Research Professor Virginia Tech\n> Chief Scientist: The Ted and Karyn Hume Center for National Security and\n> Technology\n> Senior Member IEEE, Facebook: N4HYBob, ARS: N4HY\n> Faculty Advisor Virginia Tech Amateur Radio Assn, Trustee K4KDJ\n> Member of PVRC (Roanoke-Blacksburg), TAPR, life member of ARRL and AMSAT,\n> NRVR.ORG (Rocketry)\n> _______________________________________________\n> Sent via [email protected].
