    "content": "\nAnd  turn off the P.L.\nIt makes it sound awful on CW. \n\nI started out on Mode A with a Regency HR-2B\nwith one crystal,  keying the thing on CW and it\nworked great. 15 watts did the trick. Made hundreds\nof QSO's until I got a  better rig.\n\nWhat got me started (this was in about 1974)  was \nthe local folks talking about OSCAR on the 2 meter repeater\nall the time.  SO one day I tried  just keying the mike and seeing\nif I could actually hear my own signal.. Lo and behold... it was \nthere!    The rest is history... \n\nI did the same with Oscar 10, using my old Heathkit HW-24, with only\n10 watts and a 7 element beam I could actually hear myself coming back\non the downlink!   The CW signal was awful but I managed to work\nabout 10 stations.
