USA made\nworm gear drives a 10x.\n\nI have been experimenting with worm gear drives and there are some issues\nto overcome.\n\nThere is an effect called \"stiction\" that occurs when unloading the gear\nand the load (antenna) will bounce.\n\nKeeping the antenna balanced and minimizing load on the worm gear helps.\n\nI watched the YouTube video of the dual worm gear with stepper motors. Do\nthe stepper motors generate RF noise that would interfere with SSB\nsatellites?\n\n73 - Paul - W2HRO\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn Mon, Feb 1, 2021 at 4:24 PM Mark Jessop <[email protected]> wrote:\n\n> Worm gearboxes are also used in some pretty beefy *commercial* rotators as\n> well.\n> I have one of these on my az/el system:\n> https://www.rfhamdesign.com/products/spx-antenna-rotators/spx-02-az--el/index.php\n>\n> It's been running well for 4 years now, with pretty regular use.\n>\n> 73\n> Mark VK5QI\n>\n> On Tue, Feb 2, 2021 at 7:15 AM Joseph Armbruster <\n> [email protected]> wrote:\n>\n>> Mike,\n>>\n>> I visited one HAM recently and he had a 6 foot wide dish antenna with\n>> a very old hand-crank az/el rotator, that used worm gears.
