BY2HIT and PI9CAM team\nsuccessfully decoded 39 GMSK packets from the satellite. SP5ULN and\nM0IEB also detected signals from the satellite with much smaller\nantenna, but the decode was not fully successful.\n\nTwo weeks ago, when the satellites were launched on 20 May, UHF\nsignals from both satellites was received by PY2SDR, CD3NDC, PY4ZBZ\nand N6RFM.\n\nThe subsequent tests are planned from 4 Jun 22:00 UTC to 5 Jun 00:00\nUTC, and from 5 Jun 08:00 UTC to 5 Jun 10:00 UTC. The contacts will be with International Space\nStation (ISS) crew members using the ARISS equipment on the ISS. A\nreview team of teachers from the ARISS-US Education Committee\nselected proposals after the recent proposal window closed. The\ngroups will go forward to Phase 2, developing an amateur radio\nequipment plan to host a scheduled ARISS contact.\n\nARISS's primary goal is to engage people in science, technology,\nengineering, and math (STEM) activities, and involve them in pursuits\nrelated to space exploration, amateur radio, communications, and\nassociated areas of study and career options. Cord Davidson, KD5J,\nat Central Magnet Middle School in Batesville, AR, exclaimed after a\nrecent ARISS contact, \"ARISS shows how amateur radio is the most\nunique hobby there is, and from the educator's perspective, what a\ngreat way to encourage STEM topics!\"\n\nARISS anticipates that NASA will be able to provide scheduling\nopportunities for these US host organizations. The candidates must\nnow complete an equipment plan that demonstrates their ability to\nexecute the ham radio contact. Once their equipment plan is approved\nby the ARISS technical team, the final selected schools /\norganizations will be scheduled as their availability and flexibility\nmatch up with the scheduling opportunities.\n\nThe schools and organizations are:\nFaith Christian Academy, Orlando, FL\nHidden Oaks Middle School, Prior Lake, MN\nHuntington High School, Huntington, TX\nMoriah Central School, Port Henry, NY\nNIH-National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences Children's\n Inn, Bethesda, MD\nPark Co. Public Library with Boys & Girls Club of the High Rockies,\n Fairplay, CO\nPembroke Junior Senior High School, Corfu, NY\n\nABOUT ARISS\n\nAmateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is a\ncooperative venture of the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation\n(AMSAT), the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the National\nAeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States, and\nother international space agencies and international amateur radio\norganizations around the world. The primary goal of ARISS is to\npromote exploration of science, technology, engineering, and\nmathematics (STEM) topics by organizing scheduled contacts via\namateur radio between crew members aboard the ISS and students in\nclassrooms or informal education venues. With the help of experienced\namateur radio volunteers from radio clubs and coordination from the\nARISS team, the ISS crew members speak directly with large group\naudiences in a variety of public forums such as school assemblies,\nscience centers and museums, scout camporees, jamborees and space\ncamps, where students, teachers, parents, and communities learn about\nspace, space technologies and amateur radio.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity to become involeved while directly\nsupporting the AMSAT mission on a regular basis.\n\nFind more information at www.ariss.org, and also www.amsat.organd\nwww.arrl.org\n\n[ANS thanks ARISS and Dave for the above information]\n\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n\nCall for Volunteers, ANS Seeks Rotating Editors\n\nThe AMSAT News Service (ANS) is seeking volunteers to serve as\nrotating editors for its weekly newsletter.\n\nEditors work on a rotating schedule, each taking a different turn\nediting a specific week's newsletter as scheduled by the ANS Editor\nin Chief. Editors support each other by seeking and reporting to the\nEditor of the week, information and resources of interest to the\nAMSAT community. The number of newsletters assigned will be dependent\nupon the number of available editors at any given time. The average\neditor can expect to spend, on average, 4-5 hours for each newsletter,\ndependent on available material. Prospective editors are required to\nbe AMSAT members in good standing and have a genuine interest in\nsatellite operation and an understanding of AMSAT's mission. Former\nediting experience is a plus but not required.\n\nIf interested, please submit an inquiry, including your contact\ninformation to [email protected].\n\n[ANS thanks the ANS editors for the above information]\n\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n\nARISS News\n\nRecent Successful Contacts:\n\n+ 2018-05-15 08:22 UTC between Scott Tingle KG5NZA (Exp 54), using\n ISS callsign NA1SS, and University of the Philippines Integrated\n School, Quezon City, Philippines.
