On further investigation, it seems that\nthe W2A will not fully suit my needs, due to an odd\nissue with this rig. It seems that the W2A will work\ncross-band in full duplex mode only, not in half\nduplex (in contrast, the W32A allows you to choose\nbetween full duplex and half duplex). This means that\na W2A can only be used for sats with headphones, or\nelse there will be feedback. Full duplex with\nheadphones is of course the best way to work the sats,\nbut sometimes it's just too inconvenient and I'd\nprefer to at least have the option of using the HT on\nhalf duplex with the speaker. And if the W2A desenses\nas badly as the W32A, then full duplex with headphones\nwill be a total waste.\n\nI'll test it out as soon as the charger arrives.\n\n73, Bill NZ5N \n> * Subject: [amsat-bb] Re: IC-W2A as sat rig?\n > * From: John Mock KD6PAG <kd6pag@xxxxxxxxx>\n > * Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2008 20:39:02 -0700\n\n> I had one for several years and it worked very\nnicely as a J-FM satellite\nrig. I think you made a good choice! Consider\ngetting an Arrow antenna, \nor something comparable. Also, use a casette or voice\nrecorder, as it's\nhard to hold an antenna and a radio, and still write\ndown callsigns. \n\nIf i recall correctly, the IC-W2A has an ordinary\nstereo mini-phone\njack, with the speaker on the tip and the microphone\non the ring contacts. \nBut what you'll really need is a patch cord from the\nIC-W2A to the mike\ninput of your recorder, which might need attenuation. \nWrite to me if you\nneed any help with this.\n\nI hope to talk to you soon on AO-27, AO-51, etc. 73's\nand good luck!\n\n -- KD6PAG (Networking\nOld-Timer, Satellite QRPer)\n--- Bill Dzurilla <[email protected]> wrote:\n\n> I had success on Swan Island with a borrowed\n> IC-W32A. \n> Today at a hamfest I saw a nice price on an IC-W2A,\n> apparently an earlier version of the W32A, so I\n> bought\n> it.
