"content": "Miles \n\nThe Russian suits, whether with US or Russian people\ninside, use 130.165 FM. So always check the NASA\nreleases and read them carefully. This is VHF-2 (VHF-1\nis 143.625 which Gagarin used when he was a boy). Its\nused in EVA on orbits which start over Eastern Siberia\nand head West (so that there is maximum exposure to\nRussian groundstations); a 6 hour EVA means we can\nhear the closing stages at low elevations here in the\nUK. (Obviously you can check this with up to date keps\nand announced EVA times). We heard it a week or so\nago on the first EVA, but on the second they were\ntucked up safely by the time they were over us.\n\nPersonally I think the suits relay to an onboard\nrepeater (but what do I know).\n\nYou Yanks now use some other spread spectrum or\nsimilar system that we can't hear (yet ;>)). the old\nfrequencies are dead (as is VHF-1).\n\nThe shuttle uses (allegedly) 259.7 AM over the UK as\nshe boosts into orbit but I didn't hear her last time\ndespite sitting in the garden at 1 am local time (not\nvery cold and not raining, just feeling silly).\n\nbest wishes\n\n73 de andy G0SFJ\n\n\n ___________________________________________________________ \nYahoo!
