"content": "\n\n\n\nThe January 1962 issue of CQ announced the launch of OSCAR (later called\nOSCAR 1) and says Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio. However, page\n32 of the February 1962 issue shows a image of a \"Father's List,\" with OSCAR\nLogo saying Orbital Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio. The list was flown\nonboard the satellite. So, with the letterhead on the satellite, I tend to\naccept Orbital Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio.\n\nJohn WA4WDL\n\n> ----- Original Message ----- \n> From: \"Jim Jerzycke\" <[email protected]>\n> To: \"Clint Bradford\" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>\n> Sent: Monday, August 04, 2008 8:20 PM\n> Subject: [amsat-bb] Re: OSCAR - Acronym for...?\n>\n>\n>> The AMSAT glossary lists it as \"Orbiting\".\n>> The \"Space Today\" history of Amateur satellites lists\n>> it as \"Orbital\".\n>> http://www.spacetoday.org/Satellites/Hamsats/HamsatsBasics.html\n>> Guess I didn't help you much!\n>> Maybe one of the real Old Timers can chime in here!\n>> 73, Jim\n>>\n>> --- Clint Bradford <[email protected]> wrote:\n>>\n>>> Some Web sites state that OSCAR is an acronym for\n>>> \"Orbital Satellite\n>>> Carrying Amateur Radio.\"\n>>>\n>>> Or is it \"Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur\n>>> Radio?\"\n>>>\n>>> This is actually more important than it\n>>> sounds...(grin)\n>>>\n>>> Clint Bradford, K6LCS / KAF3359\n>>> 909-241-7666\n>>>\n>>>\n>>>\n>>> _______________________________________________\n>>> Sent via [email protected].
