Definitely\nfull duplex on satellite (you'll need either headphones, I use an old\npersonal CD player set with a small Radio Shack converter plug) or external\nspeakers to avoid feedback. In addition you get a built-in TNC and I started\ndabbing around with APRS, including using the PCSAT-1 on NO-44, so that\nallowed me to do even satellite APRS. More fun for the money! PCSAT-1 is now\nin eclipse though :(\n\nI got mine from HRO. Reliable retailer, prices as good or bad as anywhere\nelse I believe.\n\nNow the TH-D7AG is not built as solidly as let's say my Yaesu VX-7, which I\nlike too. I used the latter when I started satellites because that's what I\nhad. In simplex. I never realized how much duplex is better till I got the\nKenwood. But I've made many contacts with the Yaesu. If funds were not a\nproblem, then I'd recommend the Kenwood, but just as starter, if another\ndual band radio is already available, start with that one.\n\n\nAmir Findling, 73 de K9CHP, member ARRL, AMSAT #36083\nCoordinator, Senior K9 Handler Western NY SearchDogs, Inc.\nhttp://www.wnysearchdogs.org/\nK9 Certification Tester, NYS Federation of SAR Teams\nhttp://www.nysfedsar.org/\n1st Special Response Group (1SRG) http://www.1srg.org/\nApprentice Tracker, Joel Hardin Professional Tracking Services\nhttp://www.jhardin-inc.com/index.htm\n\n-----Original Message-----\nFrom: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On\nBehalf Of John Mock KD6PAG\nSent: Friday, October 20, 2006 2:07 PM\nTo: [email protected]\nSubject: [amsat-bb] Is TH-D7AG the only widely available full-duplex HT??\n\nI was trying to help out another ham get started with satellites, and\njust checked the on-line HRO catalog. They no longer list the Icom W32A,\nonly its accessories.\n\nDoes that mean that the TH-D7A[G] is the only HT being made today which\nworks\nwell on FM satellites??? Are there other vendors besides HRO to check?\n\n -- KD6PAG (Networking Old-Timer, Satellite QRPer)\n\n\n[Note: If i'm in your address book, please replace 'qsl.net' with\n'amsat.org'.\n\n I never send unsolicited binary attachments, and so if you receive anything\n purportedly from <[email protected]> that isn't signed with my callsign, then\nit\n probably isn't from me. There's a new worm/virus out there that appears to\n be sending infected messages with addresses it finds in their hosts'\naddress\n books.
