"content": "I just bought a new laptop with no serial ports and Vista installed. I \nbought 2 Sewell SW-1301 USB/SERIAL adapters to use with it for digital modes \nand Satpc32 control. They sent drivers at level 3.0 that worked fine with XP \nbut would not work with Vista, however I did locate newer drivers for the \nchipset, level 3.2, that work perfect with Vista. The adapter is \ninexpensive, $12.45 US. I am connecting to a Kenwood TS2K. Performance seems \nto be very good, better than the native serial port on my old, now dead, \nGateway.\n\n Sewell Direct can be found at http://sewelldirect.com/\n\n I'm sure there are others just as good, and maybe better, but these are \nplenty cheap and they do work.\n\nGood luck and 73 ...\n\n Jim Bob Buckeye\n AKA\n **** Jim Leder****\n K8CXM since 1961\n IBM retiree since 1999\n\nThere are 10 types of people in this world -- those who understand binary\nand those who don't.\n\n\n----- Original Message ----- \nFrom: \"Mark Spencer\" <[email protected]>\nTo: <[email protected]>\nSent: Tuesday, December 30, 2008 3:10 PM\nSubject: [amsat-bb] USB to serial converters\n\n\nI'm wondering if anyone can recommend a USB to serial convereter that works \nwell with SAT32PC and an ICOM 706 or a FT 736.\n\nConversely if anyone has had bad experiences that would be usefull to hear \nabout as well. I've heard that some USB to serial converters work better \nthan others.\n\nMany thanks\nMark\nVE7AFZ\n\n\n __________________________________________________________________\nYahoo!
