Each year the American\nRadio Relay League (ARRL) sponsors Field Day as a “picnic, a campout,\npractice for emergencies, an informal contest and, most of all, FUN!” The\nevent takes place during a 23-hour period on the fourth weekend of June.\nFor 2021 the event takes place during a 27-hour period from 1800 UTC on\nSaturday June 26, 2021 through 2100 UTC on Sunday June 27, 2021. Those who\nset up prior to 1800 UTC on June 26 can operate only 24 hours. The Radio\nAmateur Satellite Corporation (AMSAT) promotes its own version of Field Day\nfor operation via the amateur satellites, held concurrently with the ARRL\nevent.\n\nThis year should be as easy as last year since we have more than 10\ntransponders and repeaters available. Users should check the AMSAT status\npage at http://www.amsat.org/status/ and the pages at\nhttps://www.amsat.org/two-way-satellites/ for what is available in the\nweeks leading up to field day. But, Douds has rolled with the\nchanges and couldn’t be more proud of the work he is doing.\n\n“I was originally hired as a broadcast technician and was promoted to\nbroadcast operations supervisor in 2008,” said Douds. “At that time, the\nEngineering Department oversaw Master Control. We worked 24/7 to insure\nthat WOUB stayed on the air. Later that part of operations shifted to the\nTraffic Department, so now we’re doing ‘regular’ engineering tasks, such as\ndesign of systems, installation of new equipment, and overseeing what we\ncall ‘In-House Engineering’; another team within Engineering handles field\nwork and our transmitter sites.”\n\n“A big part of the training for me for this job came from amateur radio. I\nbecame a ‘Ham Operator’ in November 1968, when I was in 7th grade,” said\nDouds. “I later became active in amateur satellite work, another part of\namateur radio where we designed satellites and have them launched into\nspace.” More at: https://bit.ly/3rKpBxI\n\n[ANS thanks Mark Johns, K0JM, AMSAT News Service Editor and WOUB.org for\nthe above information]\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nNASA TV to Air First US Commercial Crew Port Relocation on Space Station\n\nNASA's SpaceX Crew-1 astronauts aboard the International Space Station will\nmark another first for commercial spaceflight Monday, April 5, when the\nfour astronauts will relocate the Crew Dragon spacecraft to prepare for the\narrival of new crew members in late April and the upcoming delivery of new\nsolar arrays this summer.\n\nLive coverage will begin at 1000z on NASA Television, the NASA app, and the\nagency's website.\n\nNASA astronauts Mike Hopkins, KF5LJG, Victor Glover, KI5BKC, and Shannon\nWalker, KD5DXB, along with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)\nastronaut Soichi Noguchi, KD5TVP, will undock Crew Dragon Resilience from\nthe forward port of the station's Harmony module at 1029z and dock to the\nspace-facing port at 1115z.\n\nThe relocation will free Harmony's forward port for the docking of Crew\nDragon Endeavour, set to carry four crew members to the station on NASA's\nSpaceX Crew-2 mission. NASA astronauts Shane Kimbrough, KE5HOD, and Megan\nMcArthur, JAXA astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, KE5DNI, and ESA (European Space\nAgency) astronaut Thomas Pesquet, KG5FYG, are scheduled to launch to the\nstation Thursday, April 22, from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space\nCenter in Florida.\n\n[ANS thanks NASA for the above information.]\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\nPerseverance Rover Begins Steps To Deploy Mars Helicopter\n\nNASA’s Ingenuity helicopter is being lowered from the belly of the\nPerseverance rover this week as ground teams run through a choreographed\nlong-distance command sequence to safely release the $80 million rotorcraft\nonto the surface of Mars.\n\nThe slow, step-by-step deployment is projected to take around six days,\nassuming everything goes as planned. The first command uplinked from\nengineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory was to release a launch lock\nthat kept the Ingenuity helicopter firmly attached to the belly of the\nPerseverance rover during the journey to Mars.
