My first FT817 went up in smoke literally from \nthe finals doing their thing on a low battery. It not only took out the \nfinals, but the final board, and burnt the RF board under it as well. So \nit wasn't repairable and the replacement(s) were over #300 dollars. Half \nthe price of a new one then. The old unit was 16 years old before it \ndied, so I can't complain (well I can, but it didn't help).\n\nSo, the finals and its board were removed and it is being used as a \nreceiver only unit with the other fully functional unit. I paid a little \nover $600 so I just don't feel the new FT818 is worth the $200+ difference.\n\nReid, W4UPD\n\n\nOn 2/24/2018 11:44 PM, Frank wrote:\n> From my point of view there is no improvement that is of interest to a \n> satellite operator.
