Do we want to hold an AMSAT-DC meeting \nthis spring? \n\nAt the meeting last year, I announced that \nperhaps the time is ripe to hold a workshop. \nAre we still game for this? What fun! \n\nMy suggestion is that we use the workshop to \nhost three simultaneous groups (or three types \nof individuals working solo, if prefered, \npicking any one of the three to emphasize). \n\nGROUP ONE\nOne group or set of individuals will build a \nPICetSat II flight module from a kit of \nelectronic parts on a small printed circuit \nboard (hopefully under $100 each kit). We \nwould need a soldering iron and \"optics\" at \neach station even though no tiny SMT parts \nare planned to be used. \n\nSee an example of the original PICetSat module \nat http://patkilroy.com/simsat/3/\n\nGROUP TWO and GROUP THREE\nOthers would set up a simple ground station \neach, with a choice to work with the radio \nhardware (bring in radio, antenna and feedline) \nOR work on setting up the software (bring in a \nPC or laptop running Windows XPP) to decode \nthe telemetry and to analyze it according to \na set of instructions. \n\nFrequency: 433.920 MHz SSB. \n\nAll instructions will be provided in \nadvance to enhance preparation. The event \nwould be either one full day or two half \ndays. \n\nAt the end, we \"launch\" a module and copy \nthe telemetry. Perfect for beginners and \nadvanced satellite users alike, all ultimately \nworking together. \n\nThe donation per individual will be the cost \nof kit (if desired) plus expenses (divided \namong participants) plus no more than $10 to \nthe AMSAT-DC \"sustenance\" fund. \n\nI will be very busy finalizing the PICetSat II \ndesign and fabricating the PCBs over the next \ntwo months. So, I will need more help than \never before in organizing such an event. \n\no Can you help, as a worker? In preparation \nof the workshop or during the workshop? \n\no Would you attend, as an experimenter? \nWhich group, one, two or three? (Group One: \nFabricating/testing/calibrating a flight unit; \nTwo: setting up Ground station hardware; or \nThree: Ground station software.) \n\nPlease RSVP e-mail to me if you would like to \nparticipate in a telecon one evening to ask \nquestions and start planning for our meeting/\nworkshop! \n\nUntil the more productive telecon, I will \nentertain basic discussion and basic QnA on \nthis e-mail list. \n\nThoughts? \n\nThank you,\n\nPat\nN8PK\nAMSAT Area Coordinator\nMaryland-DC Area\n\n\n-----------------------------------------\nMr. Patrick L.
