Thanks! \n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-013.01\nANS-013 AMSAT News Service Weekly Bulletins\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 013.01\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nJanuray 3, 2013\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-013.01\n\n[snip]\n\nNASA Announces Student Internships for Summer\n\nCollege Level Internships\n-------------------------\nNASA says they are accepting applications for college \nlevel summer internship positions among several NASA field \ncenters. \"But don't wait until the deadline,\" advises \nNASA mentor and fellow AMSAT member, Pat Kilroy, N8PK. \n\"The opportunities to work on a CubeSat team, for \nexample, are exciting but pretty competitive.\" \n\nIt is thought that students who know the \"AMSAT way\" \nand who have an Amateur Radio license and some hands on \nexperience have a distinct advantage in the midst of such \ncompetition. \n\n\"That worked for me,\" said Pat.\n\nStudents can view opportunities and apply for them in one \nplace. To start, the prospective student should go to: \n\nhttps://intern.nasa.gov/\n\nthen click the Student Opportunities tab then select \nInternships, which will bring you to the OSSI:NIFS page \ndescribing the overall internship program. \n\nUsing the Search Opportunities tab from there, scroll \ndown to the bottom for the \"Enter keywords\" box and enter \n\"cubesat\" without the quotes to view the variety of \ndifferent opportunities in this field. \n\nPat Kilroy will be the lead mentor for two of the \nopportunities described. The first, under the title of \n\"CubeSat Engineering Design Team Project,\" applicants are \ncalled to develop a CubeSat spacecraft bus (i.e., the \nsolar panel and battery charging, power regulation and \ndistribution \"EPS\" subsystem, the RF communications \"COM\" \nsubsystem, the command and data handling/processing \navionics \"C&DH\" subsystem, the attitude determination and \ncontrol \"ADAC\" subsystem, and the mechanical structures \n\"MECH\" subsystem) and one instrument (i.e., a camera/\ntelescope payload). Hardware and software skills will be \nwell represented. The team will need a student Systems \nEngineer as well. Each intern will consult with a NASA \nengineer in their area of specialty throughout the summer. \n\nIn the second, under the title \"PICetSat Module Development,\" \none or two student interns are called to perform any of a \nnumber of tasks, including one to develop a \"dual-use\" \nground station for CubeSats and high-altitude balloon and \nsounding rocket experiments. This task will involve \nsatellite and balloon tracking, RF systems, test equipment \nand antennas and antenna control automation. \n\nAdditional details are available on the OSSI:NIFS site \nincluding how to contact the lead mentor for technical \nquestions, and the procedure on how to apply for one of \nthese Goddard Greenbelt positions as well as many others.\n\n\nHigh School Internship Applications at NASA\n-------------------------------------------\nThe application process for high school students to apply \nfor a summer internship can be found on the same OSSI:NIFS \nWeb site as given above for the summer at one of many \nlocations around the country. As noted in the opportunity \ndescription already mentioned, up to two local high school \nseniors will be selected to participate on the CubeSat \nteam in Greenbelt. \n\n[ANS thanks NASA for the above information.]\n\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n[snip]\n\n\n\n", "attachments": [] }
