It's great news to\nhear of such a newly active school in our\nlocal area! Seems like more and more are\npopping up around the country.\n\nTo answer your questions and address your\ncomments, I hope the information below is\nhelpful and not \"too much too soon\" ...\n\nFirst, a lot of the information you seek for\nground station equipment can be found in the\n\"Amateur Satellite FAQ\" on the AMSAT web\nsite at\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/archive/intro/index.php\n\nThis is your best start.\n\nNext, you will note that the equipment\nidentified there does not include price or\ninter-connection block diagrams. The prices\nvary widely, especially for new and used gear.\nCurrent pricing can be found by surfing the\nweb at amateur radio outlets. See the ads in\nQST magazine and in the AMSAT Journal! Or\nGoogle on \"amateur radio equipment\" anytime.\nVisit local hamfests for previously owned ham\ngear and check eBay and others.\n\nThe station equipment block diagrams are\navailable from many sources, including The\nRadio Amateur's Satellite Handbook by Martin\nDavidoff, K2UBC, author of the highly\nacclaimed predecessor, The Satellite\nExperimenter's Handbook. Available at:\nhttp://www.arrl.org/catalog/index.php3?category=Space%2FSatellites\n\nBlock diagrams are nice, but you'll want to\ntap into people who know this stuff in their\nheads. So don't forget to tap into fellow\nexperienced hams that each and every school\nwill want to have on hand (not just Thomas\nJefferson High). To find another one you\nmay start by looking up an AMSAT Area\nCoordinator. Check at:\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/information/ac.php\n\nA Note: Each CubeSat has different operating\nmodes and frequencies, tailored to their own\nexperiment. Go to the university or group\nthat sponsors a particular CubeSat to find\ntheir specific information. (Links below.)\n\nRemember: The \"dual use\" capability of this\nequipment. You can also use it for local\nhigh-altitude balloon experiments and other\nactivities too.\n\nAN INVITATION\nCome to our next local AMSAT-DC meeting and\nspace symposium in the late winter or early\nspring. Invite your school group members\ntoo. Watch for the announcements after the\nholidays!\n\nTap into the local group of satellite guys\nthrough [email protected].\n\nI believe with this advice you are now several\nsteps closer to achieving your budget task\nobjective and more.\n\nSee the links below for your next steps.\n\nLet me know when you have more questions.\nMaybe the amsat-dc guys will chime in with\ntheir advice too. Take care for now.\n\nSincerely,\n\nPat\n\nPat Kilroy, N8PK\nAMSAT Area Coordinator\nMaryland-DC Area\n\n\nADDITION LINKS FOR YOU\n\nSatellite Radios\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/information/faqs/houston-net/radios.php\n\nAmateur Satellite Resource Guide\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/information/faqs/resguide.pdf\n\nCubeSat Wiki\nhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CubeSat\n\nCubeSat Community Home\nhttp://cubesat.calpoly.edu/\n\nWorking Your First Satellite\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/information/faqs/langdon.php\n\nSearching for Info on the AMSAT web site\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/about/searching.php\n\nAmateur Radio Licensing\nhttp://www.arrl.org/cce/Tech.html\n\nCubeSat Launch Info\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/cubesats.php\n\nFuture OSCARs\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/satellites/sat_summary/future.php\n\nDon't Forget ARISS Opportunities\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/ariss/index.php\n\nAMSAT Member Services\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/AboutAmsat/services.php\n\nJoin AMSAT\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/membership/index.php\n\n\nAt Friday 11/17/2006 11:34 AM, [email protected] wrote:\nRe: Please forward this to whoever in AMSAT\n>Please forward this to whoever in AMSAT may someday be forming a list\n>of equipment/materials for school(s) to participate in future OSCARs.\n>\n>73, Bill, W3HXF\n>\n>Budget task A:\n>Please provide a list (better yet a kit, for a cubesat-capable \n>ground station),\n>so I can compile budgetary information.\n>\n>For a later year:\n>Budget task B:\n> AO-13 or AO-40-capable ground station:\n>145.880 MHz USB + 145.920 MHz USB Up & 435.300 MHz High to listen\n>FM (S) mode: 2401.200 MHz to listen.\n>Uplink: 1268.700 MHz USB transmit.\n>http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/echo/ControlTeam.php\n>KK5DO\n>\n>Please provide a list (better yet a kit for an AO-13 or \n>AO-40-capable ground station),\n>i.e., AMSAT's Project Eagle plans call for an mode U/V transponder\n>for SSB, CW and other modes.\n> I wish to leave the budgetary information for The Excelsior Team \n> <[email protected]>\n>Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is located \n>on Braddock Road.\n>The address is: 6560 Braddock Road Alexandria, VA 22312\n>What satellite(s) have their eastern USA pass between\n>12:45 pm is a good time because lunch would have ended (which equals \n>1745 UTC)\n>and 4 hours later.\n>\n>For a much later year, Eagle could launch by 2010:\n>Budget task C:\n>\n>Specification would make the satellite's S2 band uplink and C band downlink.\n\n\n=================================================================\nPatrick L.
