It will be a nearly all-day \nevent. \n\n\"Workshop on Portable Satellite Ground Stations\" \n\n... is the title, where attendees will learn \nabout and develop their own portable ground \nstation and show off their wares which will \nfeature one or more of the following: \n\n1. One's own laptop computer, with appropriate \nsoftware installed, such as for satellite tracking, \nSDR receiver control, antenna control (optional), \naudio recording and any other apps, for example. \n\n2. The FUNcube Dongle Pro receiver or equivalent, \nemphasizing *receiving* and not including the \ntransmit side at this particular time. See the \nlinks below for ideas about software, receivers \nand antennas. \n\n3. Antennas for 146 MHz and 436 MHz with a \nmounting means, such as on a camera tripod, small \nmast, homebrew PVC, or other portable creation. \nYour antennas can be either the Arrow, Elk or \nequivalent, or homebrew. Polarization linear or \ncircular. Antenna Az-El movement can be by hand \nor controller (manual activating or automated, \nfully or partially). \n\nEverything, or almost everything, ought to be \ndesigned to run from a 12-volt source of your \nchoosing. \n\nAdditional details will be determined by a small \nhumble steering committee that YOU can influence \nearly on. And speaking of that, . . . \n\nMay I include you, among others, on my steering \ncommittee? If not, that's okay, but I need to \nknow if you'd like to participate. Can you \nbring in some gear to assemble and to show off \nto others attending? \n\nPerhaps we could meet in person, telecon by \nphone, or by EchoLink conferencing soon as a \ngroup to further outline this event? \n\nForemost, if needed, an alternate date can be \nselected, from either March 9 or 16, or moved \ninto April on a Saturday AFTER the Greater \nBaltimore Hamboree and Computerfest of April 6, \nas long as we decide in the next week or two. \n\nAre you in?? \n\nCan you help organize? Or attend? What might \nyou bring? \n\nThoughts? \n\nThanks,\n\nPat Kilroy\nN8PK\namsat area coordinator\n\nLinks for antenna ideas:\nhttp://arrowantennas.com/\nhttp://www.elkantennas.com/\nhttp://www.g6lvb.com/homebrewarrow.htm\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/information/faqs/crow/index.php\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/echo/Az_El_Pos.pdf\nhttp://www.wa5vjb.com/references/Cheap%20Antennas-LEOs.pdf\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/tools/downloads/iROTOR.pdf\nhttp://www.arrl.org/shop/The-ARRL-Satellite-Handbook/\nhttp://ac6v.com/antprojects.htm\n\nLinks for software ideas: \nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/tools/software.php\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/tools/\nhttp://www.moetronix.com/spectravue.htm\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/information/faqs/resguide.pdf\nhttp://sdrsharp.com/\n\nLinks for receiver ideas: \nhttp://www.funcubedongle.com/\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat/intro/sats_faq.html\nhttp://www.funcubedongle.com/MyImages/SpectravueConfigurationForFCD.pdf\nhttp://sdrsharp.com/\n\n\n \"People don't care about how much \n we know, until they know how \n much we care.\" - Jack Vieira\n\nOutreach:\nhttp://simsat.net/\n\n\n\n", "attachments": [] }
