W7TBC in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona.\n\nAt the club's June meeting, kits for a WA5VJB \"Cheap Yagi\" for the\nFM satellites were distributed consisting of 2 elements on 2m, 5 \nelements on 70cm, plus the 2m/70cm \"duplexer\" or band splitter. \nOther Thunderbird club members were ready to try FM satellite\noperation via AO-51 with the telescoping whip on their HT.\n\nTwo Thunderbird club members made their first satellite contacts\nunder Patrick's mentoring. He reported, \"Jeff W0NWA worked Bernardo\n6I2HWB in southern Baja California (DL44), and Bob K7UNL worked\nme followed by Jeff, K7WIN in southeastern Arizona.\" Patrick\nmade a total of 8 contacts on that pass. Other club members were\nable to hear AO-51 for the first time.\n\nPatrick summarized, \"The weather was still 105F/41C outside with\na bit of humidity. We had a great time, and for a couple of the club\nmembers they now have satellite contacts for their logs. We may do\nanother of these hands-on demonstrations in a few months, when it is\nnot so hot outside.\"\n\nThank you to Patrick, and congratulations are in order for the \nThunderbird Amateur Radio Club!\n\n[ANS thanks Patrick, WD9EWK/VA7EWK for the above information]\n\n/EX\n\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-203.03\nAMSAT Field Day 2007 Statistics\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 203.03\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nJuly 22, 2007\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-203.03\n\nBruce Page, KK5DO reports that he has finished entering AMSAT Field Day\nreports into his computer.\n\nStatistics for AMSAT Field Day 2007:\n13 entries\n5 satellites operated\n207 total qso's scored\n2 stations operating commercial power\n11 stations operating emergency power\n1 emergency station was operating battery\n2 stations operating from home\n11 stations operating from the field\nThe least reported score was 3 QSOs\n\nQSOs per satellite:\nAO-27 8\nSO-50 11\nAO-51 14 (includes both l/u and v/u)\nAO-07 69 phone\nAO-07 21 cw\nVO-52 30 phone\nVO-52 4 cw\n\nLook for the complete article with pictures and comments in the upcoming\nissue of the AMSAT journal.\n\n[ANS thanks Bruce, KK5DO, for the above information]\n\n/EX\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-203.04\nOSCAR-11 REPORT - 16 July 2007\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 203.04\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nJuly 22, 2007\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-203.04\n\nI have now updated the telemetry archive on my website to include all\nthe telemetry received in 2007. The news archive has also been updated.\nThe URL is www.users.zetnet.co.uk/clivew\n\nDuring the period 15 June to 15 July 2007, no signals have been received\nfrom the satellite's 145.826 MHz. beacon. I have not received any\nreception reports.\n\nThe satellite is currently subject to solar eclipses, which will\ncontinue until 20 August. The duration of the eclipses is now\ndecreasing and will reach a time of 10 minutes, around 10 August. At\nthat level the satellite may be able to sustain continuous operation,\nhowever it is not possible to predict when the satellite will switch ON.\nIf there was failed attempt to switch ON just before 10 August, then it\ncould be the end of August before the satellite resumed continuous\ntransmissions.\n\nThe battery can no longer power the satellite during the eclipse season.\nWhen the battery voltage decreases to a preset level, the watchdog timer\nresets, and the beacon is turned off for approximately 21 days. When\nthe satellite restarts, eclipses could cause the beacon to switch OFF,\nafter a short time, probably less than one orbit. This short\ntransmission could occur any where over the world, and could be repeated\nat 20.7 day intervals.\n\nOwing to the lack of accurate timings, it is impossible to predict when\nand where the satellite will be heard during these short transmission\nperiods. It is just possible that someone tuning around 145.826 MHz. may\nhear the satellite, by chance.\n\nThe Beacon frequencies are -\nVHF 145.826 MHz. AFSK FM ASCII Telemetry\nUHF 435.025 MHz. OFF\nS-band 2401.5 MHz. OFF\n\nListeners to OSCAR-11 may be interested in visiting my website. The\ncurrent monthly bulletin contains further details of the satellite's\nstatus. If you need to know what OSCAR-11 should sound like, there is a\nshort audio clip for you to hear. The website contains an archive of\nnews & telemetry data. It also contains details about using a soundcard\nor hardware demodulators for data capture. There is software for\ncapturing data, and decoding ASCII telemetry. ARISS Contact with Canadian High School Students \n\nManitoba high school students attending the Manitoba Space Adventure\nCamp held at the Canadian Air Force 17 Wing in Winnipeg spoke to Clay\nAnderson, KD5PLA, on Thursday, July 12. During the Amateur Radio on the\nInternational Space Station (ARISS) contact, Anderson answered 18\nquestions posed to him by twelve students, while other camp attendees\nand the media looked on. The event received excellent television\ncoverage by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and Canadian\ntelevision (CTV).
