The launch of the Ibuki satellite (also known by GOSAT -\nGreenhouse Gases Observing Satellite) took place on January 23rd at\n03:54 UTC from the LP1 launch platform of the Yoshinubo launch complex\non Tanegashima. Ibuki has a approximate mass of 1750 kg. Is equipped\nwith two solar panels that generate 3.8 kW. The satellite will operate\nfor 5 years on a sun-synchronous sub-recurrent orbit with a inclination\nof 98 degrees.\nThe small satellites with Amateur Radio capabilities launched with this\nsatellite are SDS-1, SOHLA-1, SPRITESAT, PRISM, KKS-1, STARS-1, and the\nKAGAYAKI. Upcoming School Contacts\n\nChildren's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, Canada was successful \nvia Amateur Radio on the International Space Station\n(ARISS) contact on Tuesday, January 20 at 18:06 UTC via telebridge\nstation ON4ISS in Belgium. A space club has been formed at the hospital\nand those children participating in the club have learned about the ISS\nvia videos, the internet and guest speakers. They learned to use\ncorrect radio protocol and have tracked and plotted the course of the\nISS. They have also created artwork displayed during the contact.\nMedia coverage of the event was a success.\n\nAn Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has\nbeen scheduled for Castor Valley Elementary School in Greely, Ontario,\nCanada on Tuesday, January 27 at 19:30 UTC. A space club has been formed\nat the school for grades 1-8. Students from this group will ask\nquestions of the astronaut. Students have learned about the ISS via\nvideo, internet and through guest speakers. They have been taught the\ncorrect radio protocol and have tracked and plotted the course of the\nISS. All classes have taken part in space projects and activities.\nMedia, members of the community, the school board and other dignitaries\nhave been invited to attend.\n\nAn Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has\nbeen scheduled with CERAM EAI in Sophia Antipolis, Alpes Maritimes,\nFrance. The contact will take place on Thursday, January 29 at 14:54 UTC\nvia telebridge station VK4KHZ in Australia. CERAM University conducts\nresearch projects in aviation, engineering and IT. Amateur radio\ncommunication has been introduced to students to prepare for the\ncontact. Newspaper and television coverage is anticipated and webcast\nretransmission is possible.\n\nEcole & Collège Jean XXIII, a private primary & secondary school in\nPamiers, France, will experience an Amateur Radio on the International\nSpace Station (ARISS) contact on Friday, January 30 at approximately\n13:08 UTC. Five hundred students, ages 3 to 15 years old, attend the\nschool. Students in the third cycle classes (3rd - 5th grades) and those\nin their second year of secondary school have studied radio\ncommunications. Radio operators from \"l'Institut de Développement des\nRadiocommunications par l'Enseignement\" (IDRE) have introduced radio\ntechnology to the children. Topics covered included remote command use,\nintroduction to Morse code, ham radio phone contact, distress beacon\nsearch, electronic kits, and different ham radio station possibilities.\nThis ARISS activity has been incorporated into the educational subjects\nof Astronomy, History of Space Exploration, Geography and Writing.\n\n2. Richard Garriott Debrief\n\nAn Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program\ndebriefing session was held with spaceflight participant Richard\nGarriott, W5KWQ, on Tuesday, January 13. Richard gave a status on the\nISS Ham equipment onboard the ISS and provided valuable feedback on\nARISS operations.\n\n3. Cosmonaut Training Status\n\nCosmonaut Dmitri Kondratiev received training on the Amateur Radio on\nthe International Space Station (ARISS) equipment. He is scheduled to\nfly on Expedition 20.
