ANS reports on the\nactivities of a worldwide group of Amateur Radio operators who share an\nactive interest in designing, building, launching and communicating\nthrough analog and digital Amateur Radio satellites.\n\nPlease send any amateur satellite news or reports to:\n\[email protected]\n\n******************* AMSAT 2007 Space Symposium *************************\n\nThe Wireless Association of South Hills Amateur Radio Club announces the\n2007 AMSAT Space Symposium will be held at the Pittsburgh Airport\nMarriott Hotel on Friday, October 26 through Sunday, October 28, 2007.\nThe AMSAT web team has posted informational pages on the AMSAT web site.\nYou can find the announcement with many links at:\nhttp://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/symposium/2007/index.php\n\n**************************************************************************\n\nIn this edition:\n* September 11th\n* AMSAT September 15th Deadline\n* OSCAR 7 The Old/New Satellite\n* ARISS Status - 3 September 2007\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-252.01\nSeptember 11th\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 252.01\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nSeptember 9, 2007\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-252.01\n\nAs amateur radio operators, we all know \"when all else fails, there is\nstill amateur radio!\" September 11th is a prime example of\npreparedness. President Bush has declared September as Emergency\nPreparedness Month and we share in responsibilities to our communities\nin times of communications disasters.\nI, for one, was directly involved with 9/11 emergency comms on a\nprofessional level and admired that during this time amateurs were\nproviding parallel comms. I wasn't home for five days to insure\nemergency communications were in place to serve the needs of the area\nand the organization I work for.\nKeep those batteries charged and know what frequencies to monitor\nlocally and be prepared to drop in an assist. This is true for any area\nof the world you may be at when something can suddenly happen.\n\n\n[ANS thanks Dee, NB2F, for the above information]\n\n/EX\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-252.02\nAMSAT September 15th Deadline\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 252.02\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nSeptember 9, 2007\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-252.02\n\n\nBallots must be received in Silver Spring by September 15th. This is for\nthe BOD election. Also, this is the deadline for those that are\nattending the Pittsburgh Symposium to obtain special discounted rates.\nYou can save a few dollars by registering before September 15th for the\nactivities planned at the Symposium. Please plan early to attend and\nenjoy all that is offered. See the attached headline for more info.\n\n[ANS thanks Martha for the above information]\n\n/EX\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-252.03\nOSCAR-7 The Old/New Satellite\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 252.03\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nSeptember 9, 2007\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-252.03\n\nAO-7 is one of the early satellites amateurs had to work with. Since\nits miraculous emergence from a battery problem, it has been an\navailable \"other\" satellite to use. It has transponders on it so SSB is\nthe normal mode of ops with several QSO's allowed at a time. Numerous\nreports of its switching between mode A & B have been verified.\nIt has a much larger footprint than AO-51 and is in view much longer.\nDust off those mode A receivers (HF) and try to make a contact on this\nbird. This will prepare you for the upcoming HEO satellites Phase 3 E\nand Eagle. I was told that many CQ's go unanswered for lack of\noperators listening. It may take a little more effort to use, however,\nit's more fun and rewarding.\n\n[ANS thanks John, LA2QAA, for the above reminder]\n\n/EX\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-252.04\nARISS Status - 3 September 2007\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 252.04\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nSeptember 9, 2007\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-252.04\n\nAmateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report\nSeptember 3, 2007\n\n\n\n1.\tARISS - Amagasaki Contact Successful\n\nOn Tuesday, August 28, Amagasaki Child Science Hall in Amagasaki, Hyogo,\nJapan experienced an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station\n(ARISS) contact.
