The flight \ntest lasted about six minutes from its launch from the \nnewly modified Launch Complex 39B until splashdown of \nthe rocket's booster stage nearly 150 miles downrange. \n\nThe 327-foot-tall Ares I-X test vehicle produced 2.6 \nmillion pounds of thrust to accelerate the rocket to \nnearly 3 g's and Mach 4.76, just shy of hypersonic \nspeed. It capped its easterly flight at a suborbital \naltitude of 150,000 feet after the separation of its \nfirst stage, a four-segment solid rocket booster. \n\nParachutes deployed for recovery of the booster and the \nsolid rocket motor, which were recovered at sea and will \nbe towed back to Florida by the booster recovery ship, \nFreedom Star, for later inspection. The simulated upper \nstage and Orion crew module, and the launch abort \nsystem will not be recovered. \n\nThe flight test is expected to provide NASA with an \nenormous amount of data that will be used to improve \nthe design and safety of the next generation of \nAmerican spaceflight vehicles, which could again \ntake humans beyond low Earth orbit. \n\n[ANS thanks NASA for this info]\n\n/EX\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-305.02\nCall for Papers\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 305.02\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nNovember 1, 2009\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-305.02\n\n\nCall for Papers 14th Annual Southeastern VHF Society Conference \nApril 23rd and 24th, 2010 Morehead State University in Morehead, \nKentucky.\n\nThe Southeastern VHF Society is calling for the submission of papers \nand presentations for the upcoming 14th Annual Southeastern VHF \nSociety Conference to be held at Morehead State University in Morehead, \nKY on April 23rd and 24th, 2010. This was the 500th \nSchool Contact since ARISS began operations in the year 2000. \nSchools in all continents benefit from ARISS educative School\nContacts.\n\nThis telebridge contact was operated by ARISS ground station \nVK4KHZ located in Glenden, Queensland, Australia. At the end \nof the contact, Frank thanked Shane Lynd VK4KHZ - for the many\nARISS telebridge contacts he'd already performed. Shane shares \nthese thanks with his colleagues of the 11 ARISS telebridge \nground stations which cover all five continents.\n\nOctober 15, 2009 students in Gao, Mali talked with UNICEF good\nwill ambassador Frank De Winne onboard the ISS and 23 October, \nstudents in Mbour, Senegal got answers to their questions, direct \nfrom space. During the same orbit, Frank De Winne also talked with \nstudents in Ieper, Belgium.\n\nAudio recordings of the Warsaw and Ieper school contacts are \navailable at http://www.ariss-eu.org/archive.htm.\n\nARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering \nthe participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, \nCNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from \nparticipating countries.\n\nARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement \nof Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the \nInternational Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, \nfirst hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize \nyoungsters' interest in science, technology and learning.\n\n[ANS thanks ARISS Chairman Gaston Bertels, ON4WF and SouthGate for\n the above information]\n\n/EX\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-305.04\nLUSAT-1 Silent\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 305.04\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nNovember 1, 2009\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-305.04\n\nLUSAT-1 Silent\n\nAMSAT-Argentina reported LUSAT-1, LO-19 stopped transmitting CW telemetry\non 437.125 MHz around October 20.
