ANS reports on the\nactivities of a worldwide group of Amateur Radio operators who share an\nactive interest in designing, building, launching and communicating\nthrough analog and digital Amateur Radio satellites.\n\nPlease send any amateur satellite news or reports to:\n\[email protected]\n\n\nIn this edition:\n* Special ARISS Certificate\n* AMSAT donor operations loaners\n* AMSAT's Volunteer Reporting System Needs Your Input\n* SKN on OSCAR 2009\n* ARISS Status - 08 December 2008\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-349.01\nSpecial ARISS Certificate\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 349.01\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nDecember 14, 2008\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-349.01\n\nAll,\n\nThe ARISS team has had a number of queries on several topics. It is\nhoped that this e-mail will answer these for you.\n\n1) 25th Anniversary of Ham in Space Special Event Certificate---Many\nhave asked how to receive the special certificate and what qualifies you\nfor the certificate.\n\nQualification: Those that have had 2 way communications with the ISS on\nVoice, Packet (APRS), or through the voice repeater. And those that\nhave heard the ISS from space in any of the ARISS operations modes\n(Voice, SSTV, School Contact, Voice Repeater, Digital). Valid dates to\nqualify for certificate: November 30 to January 15.\n\nReceiving the Certificate:\nA) Please note on your QSL the ARISS mode of operation (e.g. SSTV,\nvoice, school, etc) and whether the contact with you was 1 way (receive\nonly) or 2 way.\nB) Send your SASE to the normal ARISS QSL volunteer distributor in your\narea of the world.\nC) On the outside of the QSL envelope, please include the words \"25th\nAnniversary Certificate\"\nD) Make sure your envelope is big enough to accept an 8.5 by 11 inch\ncertificate and includes the proper postage.\nE) Go to www.ariss.org if you do not know where to send your QSL and\nplease use one of the standard international QSL distributors that are\nnoted on the Web page.\n\nImportant note: We will be sending your certificate to the volunteer\ndistributors in bulk AFTER the event is over. (This saves workload and\nmoney). So do not expect to see it until 1-2 months after the event\ncloses on January 15.\n\n2) Richard Garriott QSL Card---there are have several queries about the\nfinal results of Richard Garriott's flight and how the QSL cards will be\nhandled.\n\nQSO Results: Richard made over 500 voice QSOs during his flight,\nclearly more than any single ham has made on-orbit during a short\nduration mission. And he sent down about 1000 SSTV images during his flight.\n\nQSL Card: Those that had a QSO with Richard can receive an ARISS QSL\ncard using the normal ARISS process. (See www.ariss.org). Richard\nGarriott is also planning a personal card which is in development. Once\nit is developed, they will be shipped to the ARISS international QSL\ndistribution volunteers for distribution. The current plan is that\nthose that have already sent in for an ARISS QSL card will also get a\nRichard Garriott personal card once it is available. If you made a\ncontact with Richard, have not sent in your QSL, and would like\nRichard's personal QSL card, please stand by for QSL distribution\ninstructions until the QSL card is ready. The distribution of this\nspecial QSL will parallel how we are distributing the 25th Anniversary\nCertificate.\n\n3) SSTV Operations Web Site---The ARISS team appreciated the special\nweb page support from UC Berkeley. They allowed us to use their server\nto support SSTV operations during the Richard Garriott's flight. This\nwas a temporary solution. The web site is currently down while we move\nthe web pages from the Berkeley site to the AMSAT server. This should\nbe completed in the next few days. You will see a follow-on e-mail with\ndetails on connecting up to the SSTV Operations server. We thank you\nfor your patience.\n\nOn behalf of the ARISS International team of volunteers, I thank you all\nfor your interest and participation in the ARISS Program.\n\n73, Frank Bauer, KA3HDO\nAMSAT V.P. for Human Spaceflight Programs\nARISS International Chairman\n\n[ANS thanks Frank, KA3HDO, for the above information]\n\n/EX\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-349.02\nAMSAT donor operations loaners\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 349.02\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nDecember 14, 2008\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-349.02\n\nThe AMSAT Operations team is in the process of acquiring a few sets of\nbasic loaner gear that will be available to DXpeditions and other groups\nin order to promote activity on the satellites. Initially these will\nconsist of simple FM portable stations including a full duplex dual band\nHT and an Arrow or other suitable antenna. Depending on the success of\nthe program, we will likely expand it to include the transponder and\ndigital satellites as well. We also expect to be able to integrate AO-51\noperations into the program. In the recent past, similar efforts have\nbeen undertaken by individuals within AMSAT, including W9AE's AO-40\npackage, and KO4MA's gear loaned to the KG4SB Gitmo operation.\n\nThanks to the past generosity of AMSAT-OZ and a few individual donors to\na prior personal effort to equip a Peruvian university station for\nAO-40, I have approximately 140 dollars to redirect to this project. To\ncomplete the first phase of this, I'd like to have on hand two split\nboom Arrow antennas with diplexers and two late model full duplex\nhandhelds. The preferred rig is the Kenwood D-7 or Yaesu FT-530. These\nwill be packaged together in two custom crush-proof PVC carrying tubes.\nWe already have a major DXpedition to a location within LEO range of\nmost of North America interested in participating in the early part of 2009.\n\nIf businesses, organizations or individuals would like to assist in this\nprogram, please email me at [email protected]. All sponsors will receive\nfull recognition from AMSAT for their participation. As indicated above,\nour major needs at this point are two split boom Arrow antennas with\ndiplexers and two full duplex dual band HTs.\n\n73 and thanks for your support of AMSAT,\nDrew KO4MA\nAMSAT-NA VP Operations\n\n[ANS thanks Drew, KO4MA, for the above information]\n\n/EX\n\n\nSB SAT @ AMSAT $ANS-349.03\nAMSAT's Volunteer Reporting System Needs Your Input\n\nAMSAT News Service Bulletin 349.03\n From AMSAT HQ SILVER SPRING, MD.\nDecember 14, 2008\nTo All RADIO AMATEURS\nBID: $ANS-349.03\n\nAMSAT's Volunteer Reporting System Needs Your Input\n\nAMSAT Treasurer, Gunther W8GSM requests AMSAT volunteers update their\nTime spent on AMSAT Projects in the Volunteer Reporting System.
