The beautiful coin will be a keepsake to treasure.\n\nThe ARISS program relies on resource support from NASA, ARRL, AMSAT, and\nindividual donors to ensure continuing the day-to-day operations and\ncommunications, and to pay for space-flight certification of equipment. \nCurrent\nfinances to sustain operations in future years are insufficient.\n\nThe ARISS program is initiating a fundraising campaign with the goal of \nsecuring\ngreater financial stability for the program.\n\nAccording to ARISS International Chair Frank Bauer, KA3HDO, “To assure the\nfuture of the program we are looking to individuals and corporate \nsponsors to\nprovide the resources we will need to sustain operations and to acquire \nneeded\nequipment upgrades.”\n\nPlans are underway to develop a new higher power Amateur Radio station \nfor the\nISS Columbus module. The current radio is a lower power unit that sometimes\nresults in weak signals. A new radio system will improve the \ncommunications for\neducation groups whose students are scheduled for ARISS contacts and related\neducational activities. The new system will also allow greater \ninteroperability\nbetween the Columbus Module and the Russian Service Module. Integration \nof the\nequipment into the ISS infrastructure and required testing and certification\nrequire hours of engineering resources that ARISS must pay for and cannot\nafford.\n\nEach ARISS contact offers the opportunity to inspire young people \nthrough ARISS’\nunique window into space exploration activities, opening the horizon of\npossibilities of a career in a STEM field. Each contact also introduces \nstudents\nand their communities to Amateur Radio—all positives for Amateur Radio \nand our\ncountry and world.\n\nARISS needs your help to secure these opportunities for the future. \nIndividuals\nmay make donations to ARISS online at www.amsat.org by selecting the “Donate\nARISS” button. (AMSAT-NA will provide people resources to handle your \ngifts to\nARISS.) Individuals contributing $100 US or more will receive the brand new\nARISS Challenge Coin. Corporate donors may contact Frank Bauer at\[email protected] or [email protected].\n\n[ANS thanks ARISS for the above information]\n\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n\nDelfi-C3 RASCAL Update Necessary for New Server IP Address\n\nWouter Weggelaar, PA3WEG, reported this week that due to security and\nmaintenance reasons the Delfi-C3 team had to migrate the Delfi-C3 telemetry\nserver to a new environment. This change also required that the IP address\nfor uploading data needed to change. This means your server settings in\nRASCAL need to be updated to:\n\nNew IP: 131.180.122.144\nPort: 1099\n\nOn July 9 Wouter reported, \"The migration has been completed almost without\na problem. We still have some minor issues to sort out. Telemetry submission\nis operating normally but the database performance seems slow. This makes\nprocessing more difficult on our end. New user accounts cannot be created\nbut new users can successfully submit received data via the 'guest'\naccount.\"\n\nThe team reports that Delfi-C3 is doing great. They have long exceeded the\ndesign lifetime of the satellite and she continues to work well. They\nappreciate your help in\nacquiring data of Delfi-C3 and hope that you continue to track their \"old\"\nbird in the future as well!\n\n[ANS thanks Wouter Weggelaar, PA3WEG and the Delfi-C3 team for the above\ninformation]\n\n\n---------------------------------------------------------------------\n\n\nCAMSAT Launch Postponement\n\nA launch postponement has been announced for Beijing’s new CZ-6 rocket \nwhich is\nplanned to carry a constellation of amateur radio satellites.\n\nSoon to be launched six CAMSAT satellites CAS-3A to F have now been named as\nXW-2 (Hope-2) amateur satellite system, and correspond to the XW-2A to F.\n\nAll the satellites have completed environmental testing, currently being \nburn-in\ntests, everything is underway. The satellites will be moved to the \nlaunch center\nin mid-August and launch date has been postponed to early September.\n\n[ANS thanks Alan, BA1DU, for the above information]\n\n\n/EX\n\n\nIn addition to regular membership, AMSAT offers membership in the\nPresident's Club. Members of the President's Club, as sustaining\ndonors to AMSAT Project Funds, will be eligible to receive addi-\ntional benefits. Application forms are available from the AMSAT\nOffice.\n\nPrimary and secondary school students are eligible for membership\nat one-half the standard yearly rate. Post-secondary school students\nenrolled in at least half time status shall be eligible for the stu-\ndent rate for a maximum of 6 post-secondary years in this status.\nContact Martha at the AMSAT Office for additional student membership\ninformation.\n\n73,\nThis week's ANS Editor,\nLee McLamb, KU4OS\nku4os at amsat dot org\n\n\n", "attachments": [] }
