FM interference on VO-52

I never thought I'd have heard this...around 0300 tonight on VO-52 I was calling CQ around 145.910 and heard some FM. I switched over and had almost perfect copy on a Spanish language music broadcast of some sort. I quickly started recording it and have about a 2 Mb file I can send anyone who is interested. I always though U/V was generally safe from this sort of unlicensed garbage, but sadly I was wrong. BTW, still had a nice QSO with W0EOZ in North Dakota, and VE3NPC, K9QHO, and YV4DYJ on the FO-29 pass right afterwards. 73, Drew KO4MA

HEO sat

I think anyone who has ever worked or even just listened to one of the HEO birds really miss them. However, I agree that the notion we will be able to get another VHF/UHF HEO is unlikely and probably just not a good idea anymore. I don't buy the notion that the microwave bands are a restriction, actually, I think it's just the opposite. When AO-40 was launched how many people had S-band receiving equipment? I bet not that many. When it became apparent that was going to be the band of choice the ham community got together and came up with solutions for both "builders" and "buyers". After a short period of time the AO-40 downlink sounded like 40 meters with all the stations online. The notion that ther is no equipment for 3.4/5.6 Ghz is also not exactly true. Yes, not from Kenwood/Yeasu/Icom, but E-bay is littered with C-band LNB's that will downconvert 3.4 Ghz. to L-band. It would be pretty simple to convert that to UHF for the rigs we already have. The same goes for the transmit side. the 5.6 Ghz. uplink is very close to the commerical 5.8 Ghz. uplink and I would be very surprised if a relatively simple mod could not geet some low power C-band BUC's retuned to there. I also don't subscribe to the notion that LEO birds are the main attraction to newcomers. I think most people find that haveing a satellite visible for hours makes it much easier to figure out what is going on and develop the required skills to work the satellite, which in my opinion are less stringent than trackin a fast moving object acroos the sky while compensating doppler and fighting the 20 other people on the channel. I think we are all in agreement that the chance to launch our own HEO is not looking good at the moment. The best chance we have is to piggyback onto a commercial GEO. That is going to take a concentrated effort and this is where my frustration comes in. We were told about an MOU with Intelsat but none of the details. Are they proprietary (I'm sure they are)? Even so, they should be made available to members upon execution of a non-dislcosure agreement. If we want to get a payload hosted on a commercial sat it has to have minimum impact on the satellite weight and power and should offer some benefit to the hosting company, such as proving new technology, public relations or even writing off a portion of the satellite capacity as a donation. In order to accomplish this, we need to have joint effort between the "marketing" savy members that can sell the idea to Intelsat (and possibly others) and the "tech" savvy members that can develop the hardware to fit the opportunity. As an organization, we need to adapt to our environment or die. Instead of lamenting the fact of what we don't have, let's move the discussion toward what we DO have and how can we pull that together to get what we want. I'll even start... 1. What can the BOD tell the membership in a public forum about the MOU with Intelsat concerning the requirements for a hosted payload? 2. A lot of work was started on the ACP project and was written up in the Journal, can we put together a "labsat" to take to hamfests and more importantly, prospective satellite operators to show what we are doing? How can the membership help? 3. During AO-40's lifetime, a lot of good information was passed on the BB about getting on 2.4Ghz. Can we start doing the same thing with C-band (3.4/5.6). As a start, maybe people can start reporting when they find C-band LNB's and feeds being sold especially in quantity. 4. For the more marketing savvy, how do we answer the question "Why should I use some of my valuable satellite assets to support AMSAT?" If we all picked just one of the above 4 topics and acted on it, we would generate more progress toward a HEO opprtunity than any of the discussion so far. Bob, You are 100% right! After reading the latest AMSAT Journal, I have absolutely no idea where AMSAT is going! Frankly, it appears to be chaos. I have donated and was on the verge of more donations as well as signing up for Life Member, but I have held back, waiting to see if AMSAT will even survive. I have volunteered, 3 times, and never have even gotten a courtesy response. Experience? I worked in the aerospace industry and have equipment flying on the Shuttle every flight and am involved with CEV. Frustrated? you bet! See you on AO-7 and VO-52. 73 Mike WA6ARA

WSR-036 Weekly Satellite Report and other credibility issues

Just received my weekly update on the satellite scene. Read through and found. 1) A number of satellites proposed for launch that were in fact launched last month. 2) Eagle : Proposed for launch 2009 3) P3E: Proposed for launch late 2008 4) Delfi C3 listing "proposed frequencies" when in fact it's been in space for nearly a year. No doubt there are other errors but I gave up reading. Clearly there is a lot of copy and pasting going on here with no serious updating at all. I know it is really important that information for the report comes from the mission controllers, but somewhere along the line a little common sense editing is appropriate if any degree of credibility is to be given to this service. HEO and future of AMSAT

HEO, the question is not can we do it, the question is how do we get there, and are we willing to do what it takes to get there? first of all, all AMSAT organization's must focus on one project and one project only, that way you have all of your top builders and designers working on the same project, and most importantly is the fund raising, funds can grow more rapidly as one project. I personally believe you must build the satellite first before you go looking for a ride. that way you don't get bumped from a ride if you don't have the satellite completed, and then it becomes more difficult for the next available ride. Its time "AMSAT" becomes one, not one of many AMSATs, as you look at business in todays world many are merging together as one just to survive, all AMSATs must do the same, and the ones who don't want to come together as one, must drop the "AMSAT" title. Has AMSAT-NA given any thought to donating the money they have raised for project eagle to AMSAT-DL to help with the launch cost of their HEO that seems to be already built and waiting for a ride? ISS Packet Question

Hi Gang, Does anyone know why the Unproto Path seems to change from day to day? Last Friday evening it was "RS0ISS-3." Then a few days later it was "RS0ISS-4." I have been advised to simply enter "ARISS" in my D-700 path statement and I should be okay, but I have not made an APRS contact since doing so. My inquisitive nature needs an answer as to why the Path keeps changing. Could I enter all the above path statements to be certain? Any and all info will be greatly appreciated. I monitored 145.825 MHz on a few passes over the eastern USA yesterday and did not hear any packet data. Also attempted to call NA1SS on 145.800/144.490, hoping that perhaps Mike was off duty and enjoying a few QSO's. Nothing heard. Is there any one website where we can get up-to-the minute news and info, or must I just go with trial and error attempts and hope to get lucky with making a voice contact? DL94 on the satellites (and more) this weekend...

A group of Mexican hams will operate from grid DL94 near the town of Galeana, in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon (south of Texas) starting at 0100 UTC Saturday (7 February 2008) through 1600 UTC Sunday (8 February 2008). This group is planning on working FM satellites as well as the linear-transponder satellites (VO-52, FO-29, AO-7). They plan on trying to work through the ISS, if it is available. Along with the planned satellite operating, they may also be on VHF SSB (around 50.120-50.125 MHz USB and 144.200 MHz USB) and might also be active during this weekend's Mexican RTTY contest on HF. The group is made up of the following operators: XE2MVS Orlando Salinas XE2NRG José de Los Reyes XE2NS Alfonso Tamez XE2YBG Benigno Gomez XE2YOM Oscar Martínez and Jesús Carranza (not currently licensed, but interested in ham radio) XE2MVS, XE2NS, and XE2YBG are experienced satellite operators. They will be happy to make QSOs with stations hoping to work the very rare grid DL94 this weekend. Please be sure to use the international phonetic alphabet and digits (i.e., "four-three" instead of "forty- three" to say 43), so they are able to clearly understand your English. Good luck, and 73! In addition to the information already posted, last Monday the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp) show "AS IT HAPPENS" had a ~6 minute audio piece on the Humber College/VA3JUV contact with a very enthusiastic Sandra Magnus (KE5FYE) on the ISS end. Here in the Balto/Wash area, AS IT HAPPENS is carried on WAMU (88.5). To listen to the AIH audio, fetch this CBC .wmv file <http://www.cbc.ca/mrl3/8752/asithappens/20090202-aih-1.wmv> & QSY to a time ~16:50. The ISS audio is really great at ~21:30. ARISS is referred to as an "offshoot of NASA" at ~18:40 and "ham radio" is mentioned once. 73, Tom

I have spoken to Mak SV1BSX (very many thanks Mak) and he has given me some very helpful advice, but I wonder if anyone has got them working and if so how and what diodes did they use. Linksys routers and 2M "birdies"

Hello All, I know this was discussed before, but I want to bring it up again. Does anybody have a Linksys wireless router/4-port hub that does NOT make ugly noises around 145.870 MHz (and the satellite portion of 2M in general)? New Alinco DJ-G7 HT questions?

I had Google translate the webpage about the forthcoming Alinco DJ-G7 and am still left with a few questions. • Since the modes are F1D/F2D/F3E am I safe to assume it doesn't receive SSB or CW? They almost made the perfect HT! • The 1200 MHz frequency output is 1 watt. Is this sufficient with a hand held Yagi to work AO-51? The EIRP math doesn't look good to my thinking. • So they show it at Dayton and given past timelines when would it be available for sale? • The translations says nothing about packet operations that I can see. Does anyone have any thoughts on this aspect of the new HT? Given the right answers this could be as the Google Translation of the Alinco website says "This is the handy machine, I want!" In later years, after relocating to Maine, he changed his call sign to W1ME. George was particularly interested in amateur satellite operation and contacts with astronauts aboard Mir and the ISS. In Feb 2005, he set up his radio station at the Rockland, ME high school as part of a PenBay radio club activity and contacted the International Space Station, allowing high school students to communicate with the astronauts aboard. It was one of the highlights of his amateur radio involvement. George was educated in Waltham, MA schools and attended Westbrook College for two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1968 with 27 months being served in Viet Nam. He was employed by Verizon, originally New England Telephone, for 31 years as a central office technician. George was also a private pilot for many years and a former member of the Baldeagles Flying Club in Portland. George is survived by his wife of 39 years, Caroline P. Caswell; daughter Christine and her husband Moises Nuñez, of Somerville, MA: son George and his wife Laura Johnston, of Reading, MA; mother-in-law Elsie Adams of Palermo, ME; a special niece, Sara Robinson, her husband Mike, and daughters Makayla and Jayna; brothers-in-law Jack Adams of Fairfield, ME and Ron Adams of Houston, TX and their families: and several nieces and nephews. Satellite called OMID ("hope" in Farsi) is described by Teheran as a "data processing satellite". associated press quote: "Iranian television said the satellite would orbit at an altitude of between about 155 and 250 miles. It was taken into orbit by a Safir-2, or ambassador-2, rocket, which was first tested in August and has a range of 155 miles. The radio report said the satellite is designed to circle the earth 15 times during a 24-hour period and send reports to the space center in Iran. It has two frequency bands and eight antennas for transmitting data." AP also quote: "Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that the satellite, which he said had telecommunications capabilities, had reached its orbit and had made contact with ground stations, though not all of its functions were active yet. The launch was intended to be a message of peace and friendship to the world..." which makes me wonder if there's a beacon on it. There's another report talking about an interest in store-and-forward capability but not clear if this has it or not. Thanks to all for information, until I can get hold of some more quality coaxial relays to build a 4 way polarity control box, I shall build the simple RHCP/LHCP switching unit as shown in the ARRL Handbook, this will allow me to switch between the two modes as needed, although I would like to try and build a complete unit allowing four modes of polarity control, when some quality coaxial relays are found. regards Gus -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. FT-736 tuning dial

Thanks for all the encouraging words of advice and consolation. I've heard from concerned friends all around the world in less than 24 hr. No less than a dozen by direct email, as well as some via the AMSAT-BB. This is an amazing team we have, isn't it. Honestly - Thank You All. So, while not fully recovered - the prognosis is good for my trusty radio. Still in intensive care (with covers off), the major surgery went well. I first carefully pried off the shiny knob face, then gradually slipped a tiny screwdriver in under the knob rubber, moving around the dial - working it steadily off of the knob without stretching it. This revealed two holes, one of which gives access to the one set screw. Not the old-fashioned hex-hole requiring an Allen wrench, but a hex spline - my tool says "T-8". Once the knob was off, I went ahead and removed the top and bottom covers so as to allow the front panel to hinge down revealing the inside of the encoder. I really didn't want to remove this, but needed to see that there was nothing inside that would be readily helpful. With the radio standing on it's back-side heat sink fins, face-up - I applied a few tiny tiny drops of WD40 with a tiny screwdriver, to the shaft where it enters the panel mount bushing (with the screw threads and big nut)... I turned the knob 360 degrees and applied a few more drops - and left it to penetrate for a while. Then came back and turned it and gave a few more tiny drops. I don't want WD40 inside the encoder if at all possible. If I don't take the shaft out of the bushing, I'll have to depend upon the WD40 and my incessant turning to eventually break down the dust or crud that had apparently gotten bolluxed into the juncture. I'll look at it as helping my friend thru a theraputic recovery process. Learning to tune again. I repeated the process several times, and it got a little bit better each time. I had to go to work today, and there was no one home to do this every so often - so it may take a bit longer. It may be that by removing the encoder from the panel, I would see a better way, but I'll hope that my patience and persistence will pay off. It may never be as silky smooth as it was for the last 20 years, but I'm certain that it is on the road to recovery. While I wait for the WD40 to penetrate, I've been cleaning the face and knobs and buttons on my ol'buddy. It is truly amazing how nasty-dirty that stuff can get. Especially the buttons you DON'T push... Just a hint of WD40 on a Q-Tip can work wonders down in those grooves. Such a long way from the first radio dial I ever re-strung. Can you believe that we used to do this with a spring-loaded string wrapped around a shaft, fed around pulleys, and tied to a wheel on the end of the shaft thru an air-variable capacitor ..?.. Uggh, and before that we had "crystals"... I guess the WD40 is more of a rite-of-passage. Merely a mild stroke if you would. At least this time I didn't have to get out the duct-tape. Thanks again everyone who sat up late awaiting word from the recovery room. I think we're out of the woods as they say. At least I can see a clearing from here. Thanks to everyone for being patient. I was working the satellite from a vertical antenna and learning a lot about where it is effective, and where it is not effective and receiving satellite signals. I managed one QSO, and I hope I wasn't spamming the bird too much. Learned a lot, so if I try it again, I should be easier to work. Instead of purchasing old equipment (very few will come with new battery pack...repairs either expensive or not available), you could always use two radios - one for RX and one for TX. Or use a scanner on RX! And on the FM birds, it is not mandatory to operate at full duplex. Preferable, but not mandatory. I use the Yaesu FT-60R for all my AO-51 demonstrations. The underlying "theme" to my presentations is the fact that most hams probably already have the necessary equipment to work the FM birds, and, if not, it doesn't take a lot of money for equipment. FT-60R are great dual-band rigs: bulletproof construction, strongest belt clip of ANY amateur HT chassis on the market, 1,000 memories, RX 108 to a gig, great RX volume. Add to this a great battery system where, with the optional AA battery case, you have FULL TX POWER available if needed. For comparison, use an optional AA case with the Kenwood TH-F6a, and you're running one-half of one Watt TX. The FT-60R can be programmed for "split freqs" (page 28 of the owners manual) - where you can set it up to TX on one band and RX on another in a single memory location. (Several other current HTs do this, too.) All for under $200. Improve its -2dB stock antenna, and you have a portable satellite station! For AO-51, I have mine programmed like this ... (nothing extraordinary here) ... Ch 100, RX 435.310, TX 145.920 Ch 101, RX 435.305, TX 145.920 Ch 102, RX 435.300, TX 145.920 Ch 103, RX 435,295, TX 145.920 Ch 104, RX 435.290, TX 145.920 Channel 102 is the "center" frequency. As you ACQUIRE the signal, listen slightly ABOVE (ACQUIRE - ABOVE: my mnemonic device) the center frequency to compensate for the doppler effect. Preachin' to the choir here ... sorry ... Optimum HT for FM satellite use?

Wondering what is considered to be an optimum HT especially considering ease of managing the Doppler shift during a pass. It sounds like the tuning shaft bearing is seizing. I'm not familiar with the mechanics of that rig's tuning shaft, but I've had similar happen with other rigs. You may be able to access the bearing by removing the tuning knob and clean and lube it without removing/replacing it. FT-736 tuning dial problem ? Any ideas ?

Strangest thing. I've been using my FT-736 since 1989 - trouble free. There is a dimmer or noisy connection somewhere in the house that sometimes give me fits, splattering all over the 2m band. Well this evening it was S9+ and I could barely copy ISS. After the pass I'm spinning up and down the band in USB hoping to find a freq with the most noise, and the dial starts to drag. Only slightly at first, but over a 5 min period it got worse and worse, to where it was actually squeaking some. Then I could no longer use the spinner, and it was getting hard to turn. Now I have to use several fingers grip, and it squeaks a lot. The freq does change with rotation, but now I have stopped messing with, as it is nearly too tight to turn !!! Has my 20 yr power-train warranty just expired ? What a difference 10 minutes can make. Tell me this isn't happening !.! Surely someone has had experience with the tuning shaft in this rig, and can offer some guidance as to what might be going on. I'm gonna remove the top and bottom, so as to un-hinge the front, but I doubt I can see anything obvious. But I'm gonna look. Suggestions are welcome, except the ones like "It's gone bad - just send it to me - buy a new radio..." Aloha I am looking for the "easy way out" here. I've loaded up the current Celestrak keps for the new satellites. Names have now been assigned to KKS-1 and PRISM (amongst others). Several days ago I was copying KKS-1 and PRISM with significant separation in time. Suddenly the new keps have them orbiting much closer. Since I copy in FM I have to translate a recorded signal on audio software. This morning I copied (per the new keps) what I thought was KKS-1 and then switched over to PRISM. I experienced "fading" on both birds. Later "translation" of the first CW signals revealed the following: 609/01/2403:17:00 609/01/2403:17:00 609/01/2403:17:00 ,,,,, etc etc. This data does not resemble previous KKS-1 beacons I have copied although the time and freq. appears very close to the new KEPS. Hi all, Take a look at page 41 of the February 2009 copy of QST. Juan EA4CYQ, and Pedro EB4DKA, have an interesting design for a portable 70cm antenna for LEO satellite work. It's called a "CJU" antenna. I'll let you read the article to find out what it stands for. It's basically the io half of an IOio antenna. Has anyone had any experience with the IOio? Hi all, please find a status update of the Delfi-C3 / DO-64 satellite below. 1. Following our earlier reports about the transponder issue, we sadly have had to conclude that the linear transponder is not operational anymore. Delfi-C3 / DO-64 has been in basic mode (a mode in which only housekeeping mode is transmitted) for a number of months in order to investigate this issue. Following our extensive tests, we have decided to switch the satellite back to science mode, which from a mission point of view is the most useful mode since it yields valuable science data about the Thin Film Solar Cell payload and the Autonomous Wireless Sun Sensor payload. 2. Today during the 09:33 UTC pass we have successfully commanded the satellite to science mode using the primary downlink at 145.870MHz, 1200Bd AX.25 BPSK and stored this mode in the on board data base. Subsequent database dumps indicated that the new settings have been stored successfully. This mode is recognized by the higher rate of telemetry frames on the downlink, 3 payload frames are transmitted followed by 1 housekeeping frame. Note that the satellite boots in this mode on 145.870MHz whenever she comes out of eclipse (no battery on board). It is possible, that the satellite decides to use the 145.930 MHz backup downlink. If you hear Delfi-C3 / DO-64 on this frequency, your reports are highly appreciated! 3. Contrary to basic mode, in which the downlink is on continuously, downlink drop outs are likely to occur in science mode. Therefore, it is possible that the satellite is not heard, and due to the orbit, the chances that the downlink is still on over VK / ZL are slim, sorry to all of you down under! However, if you hear the satellite, your reports are very much appreciated! We regularly post the satellite status on the Oscar status page at http://oscar.dcarr.org/ and encourage you to do so as well. 4. Telemetry can be received using the RASCAL program, which is available at http://www.delfic3.nl/rascal At this moment, the total amount of frames has exceeded the 500000 mark, more precisely 504364 (which amounts to approx. 72.14 MB), a truly magnificent number. Thanks once again to all of you receiving and submitting telemetry! When in science mode, the IV curves of the Thin Film Solar Cell payload can be viewed by clicking "options" --> "show IV curves". Hello I am looking for some brain power from anyone who has built loop yagi's. I am getting my information from The ARRL Antenna book 20th edition. The book says follow exactly, however. It calls for alluminum elements 0.0325 thick, I have copper 0.025 thick. It calls for 3/4" alluminum boom I have 3/4 copper and some 1/2" stainless steel channel. The feed to the driven element is UT-14, I have a short piece with a SMA already attached, will connecting the SMA to a SMA-N adapter be acceptable? I have seen the pretty pictures of Directive Systems antennas http://www.directivesystems.com/loopyagi.htm Same idea only different parts. Are these things pretty "forgiving" or are the components critical? Also comparing the loop to a quagi the loop widths are 1/4" wide and the quagi used #18 wire, why? When AO-51 is configured for 2401.2 Mhz down FM repeater as it is currently, (Jan 26 - Feb 1) Is this the same configuration used for 38.4 kbps digital modes on 2401.2 Mhz? I've been trying to listen on 2401.2 but I'm not hearing any voice transmissions. It appears that I might be seeing some packet bursts. Is this correct? Will someone please educate me? If it cost $4,000,000 to launch a HEO we would have put one, possibly two of them up since AO-40. We would at least be building the second. Also $500,000 will barely cover the cost of the solar panels. It will not cover the cost of the motor. Dream on Macduff! All, 21:08 UTC I had only a 8 degr elevation pass first and used both TLE for analyzing the doppler frequency. Well, it seems my assumption was right - seems we have to change the TLE for PRISM to OBJECT J. 22:41 UTC After this second pass with higher elevation (32 degr) I am sure that PRISM is OBJECT J. I had a pretty high pass early last night and heard nothing here in FN13.... Left the radio on and around 2100-2130 local heard a bunch of packets, some strong, some not. Al, I don't know what time you are referring to on AO-51. The first pass on the west coast (01:04Z) was OK, Had exchanges with KE5GDB and VE7VW with no problems. Good pictures both ways. The second pass was completely quiet. Several interfering carriers came on several times during SSTV transmissions. Anyone who is copying pictures please let us know if we are getting through. I was reading the post concerning the Kepler files in SATPC 32. I think I might be having trouble with getting the recent downloads. I don't see any of the new SATS. I have enabled SATPC32 in my firewall. Ryan, Checked this morning, and the Celestrak server is working fine. The usual problem with downloading is a firewall which needs an exception to permit SATPC32 to access the Internet. If your program was downloading, and now isn't, I would still check the firewall for blockage. If all else fails, cut the URL from the Celestrak.SQF file and paste it into the URL window of your browser. You should get the desired file, which you can save as a text file, and then copy it to the Kepler directory. Make certain you get the right directory. It will be something like C:\Documents and Settings\WA4SCA\Application Data\SatPC32\Kepler There will be other Kepler directories, but they are for backup and default data. Let us know the results. Packet burst at 145.800

On January 25 at 2040 EDT my transceiver was left on 145.800mhz and i hear a couple of packet burst. ISS was not in view at that time and no other packet cube sat orbits seems to match? Is it something i heard in direct? the signal fade and he was shifting in frequency exactly as it was coming from a satellite? Any clues? New Operator Questions

Good Evening, My current station setup is a TS790, Yaesu G5400 with the Sat688 controller. There is a 440/144 antennas, no preamp yet. I do have a 440 preamp, but I have not set it up. Currently trying SATPC32, but may try HRD when he finishes adding the Easycomn1 communications. I think the setup is working. I do have a series of questions so that I can make my fist QSO.. What are the better satellites to work evenings here in the NE? Are some easier to work? I know there are some issues with the TS790 (so I have been told). Any tips? Do you shut off the computer control after it comes into view? Is there a decent Linux program that will control what I have?? Any tips or help would be great!! TNX Will WC2L

HEO vs. LEO cost comparison

I've been thinking about the LEO vs. HEO debate recently and have come to a question, What is the cost comparison between launching 1 HEO sat vs. a constellation of LEO sats similar to what iridium has flying? Has this cost analysis been done? It seems many people just want a communications resource that is generally available from where they are and allows multiple simultanious (voice bandwith or wider) users. We seem to spend way too much time arguing over HEO vs. LEO when the real discussion seems that it should be how to most effectively provide a communications resource that best serves the amateur radio community in serving it's purpose as specified in 47CFR97.1 (apologies to the non-US hams on the BB but is not the outline similar most everywhere for our service) which reads: Section 97.1 The rules and regulations in this Part are designed to provide an amateur radio service having a fundamental purpose as expressed in the following principles: (a) Recognition and enhancement of the value of the amateur service to the public as a voluntary noncommercial communication service, particularly with respect to providing emergency communications. (b) Continuation and extension of the amateur's proven ability to contribute to the advancement of the radio art. (c) Encouragement and improvement of the amateur service through rules which provide for advancing skills in both the communications and technical phases of the art. (d) Expansion of the existing reservoir within the amateur radio service of trained operators, technicians, and electronics experts. (e) Continuation and extension of the amateur's unique ability to enhance international goodwill. How can we best provide or at least contribute to this goal.
