All, on 435.315 MHz (FM) you can hear RS-30 APT transmission. It looks like test pattern. See here: http://www.dk3wn.info/images/rs30_apt_test.jpg I used WXSat for decoding. Bummer.. Someone mislead me. Thanks for the correction. A map I have says 1950 ft elevation for Enchanted Rock. I just checked Google Earth and it gives a number closer to 1835 for the elevation. SatPC32 V12.8

V12.8 is up and running. I learned the hard way that it is essential (as instructed) to copy all SatPC32 files into a new folder I named SatPC32_127. Then totally uninstall SatPC32 including removal of folder. Then, do a regedit removal of all vestiges of SatPC32 values before installing V12.8. I could then copy all my setup, keps etc from the SatPC32_127 folder to V12.8. One thing noted - when running SatPC32ISS V12.8, the CAT feature is not working with my IC910H. The CAT works with the regular SatPC32 v12.8 program. Is this normal? Jim K7EG Auburn WA

Thanks Mark, I thought I was the only one with that problem. Same results here. SSB update very slow or not happening with the TS2000 (0 delay setting,. highest baud rate), once I switch to FM it seems to work. It is even worse if you have two radios connected. IC910H same issue. Another hidden problem is the delay rate with the IC910 and SatPc32 (previous and this version). It does not work with 0 delay and needs at least 30 or 40. That makes it impossible tracking efficiently DelfiC3 telemetry without constant manual overwrite and fine tuning. Seems to be specific to SatPC32 since HamRadio Deluxe runs the IC910 without delay and the doppler control is much better timed. FCAL Mission patch winners

Hello all, Now that FCAL is down, I went through all the emails sent with FCAL data. Four people sent me data. I received data from Mike Ruppercht DK3WN, Armando Mercado N8IGJ, Bent Bagger representting AMSAT-OZ, and Edward Chuang BX1AD. It turns out, I have four mission patches so all will receive one plus a mission coffee mug. One surprise about the mission patch. These are STP mission patches that have flown on the space shuttle when FCAL and ANDE were released. I will include the letter of authentication that indicates these patches flew in space. I joined the AMSAT BB about a week ago. I was looking for some technical assistance . . . I normally do not subscribe to "reflectors" ( bulletin boards). . . . I now have a reminder why I refrain from doing that. I have been able to get some excellent ideas about what I am trying to do personally with my station. Thanks to those who have written me. A little more of the belly aching and I will pull the darn plug . . . I wonder if there is this type of complaining on EME associated bulletin boards ? Jim W9VNE

Dick, Thanks for the input. I should have added that I preserved a copy of the version 12.7 installation, and when I run SuM from there, it starts correctly and gives reasonable values. Also, when run from the version 12.8, while you can get past the error message, the rotator driver does not start. I am using the LabJack interface. Alan WA4SCA

TS-2000X and SatPC32 12.8

Hello List, After checking with Erich and his always timely and helpful responses, I still am having trouble with SatPC32 ver. 12.8 and CAT control on the TS-2000X. Erich is not able to reproduce my results...his is working just fine. The trouble seems to be specific to the SSB mode birds. The symptom is that the frequency isn't updated at the expected interval (Doppler correction isn't occurring at the expected frequency change intervals). It is slow to occur, if at all. Futhermore, when trying to change between U/V and V/U birds, the band changes don't occur (i.e., the xmit/rcv VFO's don't swap bands). Everything works perfectly under ver. 12.7. I have checked and rechecked settings in ver. 12.8, and I have uninstalled/reinstalled, and still the symptoms appear. I am using WinXP Pro. I'm not sure what firmware I have in the TS-2000X..but it works perfectly under 12.7. Is anyone else using a TS-2000X or TS-2000 seeing similar symptoms with ver. 12.8? -- Mark L. Hammond [N8MH]

So, lesson learned: Establish contacts with AMSAT R. If it exists. Encourage co-operation between AMSAT R and various CIS space companies. Influence companies to include globally appreciated amateur communications systems as means of increasing public awareness of companies existence and products. Also, be very grateful 70cms is a shared band with the military, as that's the main reason it's not full of WiFi as 2.4GHz is. As for university cubesats sending data on amateur bands. Terrific. I get a great thrill imagining the sound of Delfi C3 emerging from the radio in a Lebanese (etc) taxi cab. Use it or lose it! Regards David G0MRF

We may not be able to say a lot but the fact that we could say anything at all I find compelling. I regularly listen and call to the "non official" downlink dx frequency of 145.958. I worked the pass over FM07 around 22:57 5/28. Very easy to access and hear on my D700 mobile and duel band vertical on the roof. Myself and 3 others had it to ourselves. That is nice for a change. Hey, folks, whether RS-30 has some kind of transponder is just rumor and speculation at this point. I feel (and only represent myself) that it's very bad form to condemn or harshly criticize the builders of this satellite, at the very least, until we know what it's capable of. Jim: Ron writes about how he uses the AFC. I tried that. It's pretty cool, but you still have to tune to uplink for doppler. The downlink track perfectly. I used to have the memory channels set up, actually still do, but now never use them. But, with SATPC32, the whole process is automated and works for the SSB birds too. I only have to touch the IC-910H radio for a four things: 1. Change the PL tone to turn on the SO-50 satellite transmitter. Then change back to the normal PL. 2. Tune across the bandwidth of the linear transponder SSB / CW satellites to locate other hams scattered across the transponder passband. 3. Track other SSB operators who are not using doppler control. 4. Turn on or off my preamps when needed or not needed. Automation is great. It controls my rotors Ken Pro KR-500 and HAM-IV (with custom home made enhancements to the rotor controllers), my G-5400B AZ-EL rotors I am using to build a portable setup, tunes for doppler, and can be set up to automatically switch to selected active satellites, so all you have to do is talk and log your contacts. A voice recorder helps there in case you miss something. I still haven't found a way for it to send out the QSL cards automatically, YET! Oh yes, I looked at some of the reviews in eHam. There were complaints about not being able to set separate RX and TX PL tones - The reviewer needs to read the manual. You do have to be careful. For example, with SO-50, if you want to turn on the satellite transmitter with a 74.0 PL tone, you have to know what you are doing. There are 4 different PL tones that can be set. If you change the wrong one, the satellite won't turn on. You choosing between Main and Sub band and between RX and TX PL for each of those. I noticed another reported problem which I do not recall, but that was also a case of reading the manual. Whatever you decide to do, have fun. Don't settle for just doing the FM birds. They are easy. They are a great place to start. Try this progression: AO-51 (Easiest FM bird), AO-27 (downlink is higher than published by about 3.5 KHz and it is only on for 7 minutes over North American Lattitude), SO-50 (need PL), VO-52 (Great SSB bird, LSB Uplink, USB Downlink), AO-16 (FM Uplink, DSB downlink - Off lately), and AO-07 (SSB, In daylight only, moderate elevation helps). Circular polarized yagi antennas with automated elevation and azimuth control and some preamps pretty much complete that station and will let you work just about anything as long as you don't have any mountains or other obstruction in the way. 435.300 downlink? I thought it was 435.150. Thanks for the reply. I've heard ISS just fine with the same setup, but I see that AO-51 is a bit over twice as high. I'll try open squelch next time and Doppler tuning on rx. I don't understand, however, why I didn't hear myself on the nominal 435.150 at peak of pass, unless rx is actually 435.300. The version of 12.8 for ISS (SatPC32ISS) does not start with the QTH/Registration dialog. I can find no way to enter my Lat/Long. I did follow the instructions for upgrading from 12.7. Just copied the last pass of the satellite RS-30. The CW signal was very strong here in FM07. Copied LOS right down to 5 degrees. The doppler was about 5 kc higher than expected. Looked to be about 435.317 center. Hi! On Saturday, 31 May 2008, I will have an AMSAT table at the hamfest in Prescott, Arizona (grid DM34). More information about the hamfest is available from these links: http://www.w7yrc.org/ham_fest.htm http://www.vvara.org/hamfest.html During the morning, I will have on-air demonstrations using the AO-51 satellite. There is a nice pass to the east just before the start time for this hamfest (0800 local/1500 UTC) that I will be on, as well as the subsequent western pass, using my callsign WD9EWK. After the hamfest, I will drive toward Kingman in northwestern Arizona (on I-40 and old US 66) to find a good spot on the DM25/DM35 grid boundary near that city. I plan on being there for AO-51 passes Saturday evening (early Sunday, UTC) both to the east and west, for anyone interested in making a contact with those grids. I am not sure if I will be on for AO-27 or SO-50 passes during the afternoon or early evening on Saturday. SatPC32 12.8 released

Erich Eichmann DK1TB has released SatPC32 version 12.8 which contains improvements for Windows Vista compatibility, CAT control of multiple radios, and CAT control of Icom half-duplex radios. A demo version may be downloaded from the author's web site: http://www.dk1tb.de/indexeng.htm Here are the changes listed in the 12.8 "What's New" file: 1. The 16-bit setup program has been replaced by the latest 32-bit Vista compatible version of Installshield Express. 2. The CAT steering functions of SatPC32 have been expanded: a. The program now supports Doppler tuning with a single ICOM IC-706MKIIG, IC-7000 and compatible radios, although these radios are not full duplex satellite transceivers. Previous versions of SatPC32 already support satellite operation with a single one of the Yaesu half duplex radios FT-817, FT-857, FT-897. With half duplex transceivers you can't hear your own signal on the downlink like you can with full duplex radios. However, the program automatically sets the uplink and downlink frequencies to the correct values. So, it allows voice operation over FM and SSB satellites and also digital operation. Read the "Hints for .... users of Icom radios" how to calibrate SSB frequencies when using a half duplex radio. The file can be opened from the SatPC32 menu "?" / "Hints for...". b. Full duplex satellite operation with 2 separate radios for uplink and downlink has been improved. Previously, one had to run the tool TxController (that came with SatPC32) to steer 2 separate radios. SatPC32 then steered the RX radio directly and TxController the second radio as the TX. Via DDE, TxController received the data calculated by SatPC32, using the data to steer the mode and frequency of the TX radio. A problem occured when the user switched between a V/U satellite (uplink on VHF, downlink on UHF, e.g. AO-51) and an U/V satellite (uplink on UHF, downlink on VHF, e.g. VO-52). With V/U satellites the VHF radio had to run as the TX and the UHF radio as the RX, with U/V satellites the situation was vice versa. Since TxController could only steer the TX radio, a second instance of SatPC32 and TxController and a program re-start were necessary when the user switched between such satellites. Now SatPC32 itself steers also the second radio directly. The configuration can be done in the "Radio 2" section of the menu "Radio Setup". Numerous devices can be combined, e.g. the Yaesu semi duplex transceivers with each other or with Icom semi duplex radios or single band radios or Icom radios with each other. With 2 Icom radios only a single serial port is required. Both radios can be connected in parallel to the CAT interface. When the user switches from a V/U satellite to a U/V satellite or vice versa the program will (optionally) exchange the roles of both radios as TX and RX. Example: With FO-29 a FT-817 (that is connected to the UHF antenna) runs as RX, an IC-706MKIIG (that is connected to the 2m antenna) runs as TX. When the user tunes the FT-817 with the VFO around the passband the program will automatically tune the frequency of the IC-706MKIIG to the correct uplink frequency and the user will immediately hear his signal on the new frequency. When the user switches to a U/V satellite the IC-706MKIIG will run as the RX on VHF. When the user tunes it's VFO the program will tune the FT-817 to the correct UHF uplink frequency. 3. The Vista compatibility has been improved. Previously the SatPC32 data files were stored in the SatPC32 program folder. They could be edited with Notepad. Under Windows Vista, however, this method causes problems if the new "User Account Control" (UAC) is activated (recommended by Microsoft). Then Vista inhibits changes of the original data files and creates copies with the changes instead. Vista saves these copies in a hard-to-find "compatibilty" folder. Therefore the SatPC32 data files are no longer stored in the program folder but in a sub folder 'SatPC32' in the system folder for application data. The program displays the path of this data folder in the bottom line of the menu 'Satellites'. 4. SatPC32 now includes a simple text editor that can alternatively be used besides Notepad to edit auxiliary files (data files, i.e. Doppler.SQF). In the file DivOptions.SQF the user can choose whether auxiliary files are to be opened with Notepad or with the built-in editor. 5. Further improvements: a. SatPC32 supports now the FMN (narrow FM) mode of the IC-910H. In the file Doppler.SQF enter FMN as the mode if this mode is to be set. b. With previous version the menu "CAT" needed to be closed when the satellite is changed. Otherwise the program could not update the frequency list. That has been changed. So, the CAT window can now be left open during operation. It should then be moved out of the main window. c. The program now shows the file date of the selected Keplerian data file in the bottom line of the menu "Satellites". So the user immediately knows whether the data should be updated. d. SatPC32ISS: CAT steering of the FT-736R didn't work reliably when the satellite's uplink and downlink frequency are the same, e.g. the packet frequency of the ISS on 145.825 MHz. This has been fixed. e. Some minor bugs have been fixed. "Registered" SatPC32 users may use their existing registration code to activate the downloaded new version. New users are encouraged to purchase a registration code from AMSAT-NA, AMSAT-DL, or AMSAT-UK. LVB Tracker software upgrade

First, I would request that everyone that gets an LVB Tracker Box from AMSAT-NA to address any problems to Gould Smith, wa4sxm(a)amsat.org rather than to Howard. Howard is working on many other important projects for multiple AMSAT groups. Mike, WB8CXO and I will work with you to resolve any problems This email is to clarify the effect upon the LVB Tracker boxes delivered via AMSAT-NA arising from the release of software version 0.9 that Howard Long, G6LVB has announced. 0. The LVB Tracker boxes sold by AMSAT-NA have software v 0.7 when delivered. release 0.8 had a fix to make the board work better with the PREDICT software, v0.7 did work fine in our tests with PREDICT release 0.9 has a fix to make the 9600 bps communication bit timing better, the current timing in v0.7 & v0.8 should be adequate. Any bit timing problems should effect all tracking software communication, but will effect longer serial data strings more. 1. If you are not experiencing any problem communicating with your selected tracking program, this software upgrade probably is not necessary. 2. We are not shipping the MAX232CPE chip with the boxes because: a) you cannot/should not run both the USB and serial ports at the same time b) we couldn't rationalize the extra expense and time to adequately package a loose chip so it could be found when needed 3. We are in the process of packaging some MAX232CPE chips and will make them available at a reasonable cost through the AMSAT office within the next two weeks. 4. You cannot reliably re-program the box using the USB port. 5. To re-program the PIC processor using the main board you must: a) remove the LVB Tracker cover b) disconnect the LCD, pushbutton and rotor controller cable headers c) unscrew the four screws holding the main board to the case and gently remove the main board from the box d) very carefully remove the USB module from the 28 pin socket. There are surface mount parts on the bottom of the USB module, so use extreme caution when prying the module out of the socket. e) insert the MAX232CPE chip into its socket, making sure to orient it correctly f) follow the instructions for running the DOS program Howard wrote to program the PIC chip via a serial port. g) remove the MAX232 chip after a successful programming effort f) insert the USB module back into the 28 pin socket on the main board g) screw the main board back into the enclosure h) re-attach the LCD, pushbutton and rotor controller cable headers i) re-attach the cover j) go through the calibration procedure again (possibly) 6. We are testing the new software release and after successful testing will use this in our future LVB Tracker boxes. We are also testing the LVB Tracker 2, using a different PIC chip and new software. This chip will replace the one in the current box and with some proposed hardware additions will make a more versatile unit. There are still some changes/improvements that need to be made and additional tests run before we make this available. Each box is tested, calibrated and made to control a Yaesu rotor from SatPC32 or MacDoppler Pro before shipping. LVB Tracker 1 Nova fix

Folks A few weeks ago my attention was drawn to a compatibility problem with Nova and the LVB Tracker 1. I believe that I have found the fault, but it is not clear why it has taken so long for this problem to occur, especially as Nova has been my tracking program of choce for many years! It may only affect more recent versione of Nova. I have adjusted the LVB Tecker's Baud Rate Generator slightly to be much closer to 9600bps. I must have made an error in my calculations all those years ago, so it was only operating at 9259bps. I have adjusted the BRG by one to make 9616bps and things seem to be much better now. Technically, we were only 3.5% out anyway which normally would be OK (ISTR that 5% timing error is the limit). Folks Here's a note I've sent privately to some individuals about the 0.9 update, but I guess due to the response it's wise to spread it more widely. Firstly, if you're not having any problems then I don't see a need to update the firmware. The version you have (probably 0.7 or 0.8) has been stable for many years now and the small change I made for 0.9 is most probably unnecessary unless you are encountering problems. I've been using Nova for quite some time (many years) and it was only recently I've been aware of any problem. Because of the nature of the fault (it's intermittent), it's taken a while to find it. Regarding a firmware upgrade, I would only recommend upgrading the firmware from the serial 'MAX232' port, and only using a 'proper' serial port (not a USB one). I do know that in the early days of the project I did manage to program the unit via an emulated USB COM port, but latterly I found it unreliable and slow if it worked at all. You could try upgrading through the USB port, but please bear in mind that if it fails part way through the flash upgrade you'll need to try again until it's successful: once the flash upgrade has started, it's already blown away the last code. A failure in programming won't bust the chip itself, but of course it'll be frustrating if you need to find a machine with a serial port on it. 73, Howard GJ6LVB

Having worked and confirmed all of the DXCC countries and just recently retired, the birds have my interest. I have plenty of 1/2 inch and 7/8 inch hardline and connectors as well as a Kenpro G 500 elevation rotor. I have an Elecraft K2 with their transverter and a Microwave Module with satellite capability for 435. Just need some antennas. I am also thinking of getting a more modern rig and the Icom 910 caught my eye. A friend of mine has a Yaseu 736 which he will sell me with 2 and 440 modules. No price discussed yet but I thought $700 would be my top. As an alternative I thought about the Icom 910H. The only concern was a comment I read on EHam that it was not user friendly on the FM birds being more friendly to the JA birds. Is the 910 capable of doing AO 51 OK or is it a pain ? Often information can be misleading. This is my first post here on the BB. If there is any bird operator close to Cincinnati, Ohio , I would love to visit your station. I do have the old style Mirage bricks for 2 and 432 too. I thought of Egg beaters from M Square but now leaning more toward the 10 foot long circular yagis for 2 and 432. I decoded 'aausat_26052008_2020utc.wav' (4.5MB) which was received by DK3WN / Mike Rupprecht. Hi all, another status update of the Delfi-C3 satellite: 1. First, something on a lighter note: we have posted two videos on our photo weblog at http://www.delfic3.nl/photoblog/ the first one of the final integration of Delfi-C3, and the second one was made on launch day, April 28th, during the pass over our groundstation when we first heard Delfi-C3 (after she had already been heard by Rick Mann in the US) and in which we decoded the very first telemetry. As you can see, things were both hectic & great fun that day! 2. Meanwhile, being almost one month in orbit, the satellite is doing fine, all telemetry still shows nominal values. The satellite is commanded regularly with good success down to low elevation (2 deg). We have not yet applied a final cure for the downlink cut out problem as we are doing some more testing when she is over our groundstation. 3. Rotation rate seems to have decreased significantly over the last weeks, we are still analyzing telemetry to further quantify this observation. 73 on behalf of the Delfi-C3 team, Wouter Jan Ubbels PE4WJ

I managed to get 41 seconds of it but may have missed a bit at the begining. Still no idea how to decode it though. Best guess seems to be Domenico I8CVS assumption that it's transmitting an old format of 4 lines per second. So that's a minimum of 41 x 4 or 164 lines. Perhaps if 50 seconds that would be a 200 line picture. I just hope that the builders of the satellite haven't completely lost touch with the Russian amateur community in the last few years. So far the only parts of the transmission we can decode is the CW telemetry. It would be a real shame if the propritory format of the data is just intended for a small number of students within the company responsible for building RS30 and a lost opportunity if some sort of V/U comm's has not been included on a satellite with such an excellent orbit. DirecWav satellite internet useful?

Hi folks, My neighbor appears to be tossing their Hughes "DirecWav" satellite internet dish and associated dish-mounted electronics. By any stroke of luck, is this stuff reasonably convertable for use with any of the the proposed P3E up or downlinks? I have no idea what frequency it runs. It appears to have both transmit and receive capabilities (based on the warnings posted). There are no model numbers that I can find on the electronics. Jim, The Icom IC-910H is a great rig. I use it all the time for the satellites and have worked AO-51, AO-27, SO-50, AO-07, VO-52, and AO-16 without any problems. I can't imagine what the complaint on EHam was all about, but no matter what the rig, or anything else for that matter, there always seems to be some disgruntled purchaser out there. Some of the complaints I've seen are based more on the knowledge of the user (or lack thereof) than the capabilities of the radio. The FT-736 is a good rig with 25 watts per band. With a good antenna system, that should be adequate for most, if not all, satellites. The IC-910H provides continuously variable output from 5 watts to 100 on 2 meters and 5 to 75 on 70 cm - more that you should ever need. I use SATPC32 for doppler control, but I think that the FT-736 is also compatible, so no big deal there. One very nice feature of the IC-910H is the ability to power compatible preamps through the coax with just a button push on the radio. The main difference is that the IC-910H is currently in production and is a fairly compact package, whereas the FT-736 is discontinued and is big and bulky. Overall, I think you will really like the IC-910H. The radio does have a learning curve, so DON'T lose the manual. You will be refering to it many times. I've been using mine for less than a year and really like it. It also does NOT have the birdie on 436.8 that wipes out the downlink on SO-50 and AO-27 on the TS-2000, depending upon the amount of doppler shift. ISS digi active?

Any info on whether the ISS APRS digi is active? And is there a solid current source of that info? I have found some sites with general info, but due to activities on the ISS, they seem to make changes with fair frequency. YUBILEINY tlm and wrap-up comments

Yubileiny was NB over me twice tonight and started in cw until she appeared to be about 10/15 degree elevation over Kaluga then she switched into FM/data. I think Mineo is hearing her being commanded from Krasnoyarsk. The default appears to be the cw beacon, but either the tlm could be slightly varied or maybe I don't have the full set yet (Rolf DK2ZF recorded a TAB value). Maybe it's my CW! She's then commanded on to FM and I think this is a downloaded data dump. It's difficult to know what the data is without the format. Simon HB9DRV has suggested Throb 4 for the link. That doesn't work for me in MixW - only garbage - but I think it's more likely to be a data dump than wefax although as Domenico I8CVS has pointed out there are certainly strong synch pulses at 2400 Hz (I get vague shapes from wx2img, probably the product of my fevered mind!!); does anyone know if could be PCM/FM as used on other Russian spacecraft? I think she is not yet ready for the demo of sstv and other historical data. The website said she needed 4 days to setup so maybe we're getting close. I am also concerned about the lack of charge current (from what I read into the tlm, based on RS22). Could be a sensor problem or misread. David G0MRF comments that looking at the pictures she probably has 16.2 volts on board under a load, hence us160 /10 = 16v. RS-30: 435.215 vs 435.315 TX power

I have the impression that in case .315 has max output, .215 has low output power (sometimes) .315 has low output, .215 has high output power (sometimes) but that both .215 and .315 can be very strong. For example, 315 was relative weak (FM) for a while, and at that time .215 was very load with CW. Object C is now best fit here. Henk, PA3GUO

Orbit types

Hi all, How can I tell what type an orbit a satellite is in, say based on Orbitron? I can see that RS-30 appears to have 100% sunlight and orbits over the Polar region, so one assumes a Polar Orbit?? Is it as simple as that, I have a talk to give to a scout group, and wanted to make it a bit more interactive... Does the amount of sunlight have a different name as well?? Hopefully this makes sense and isn't too stupid! Thanks.. Chris

Strange Signals from Yubileiny

Is this a possible explanation for the "strange" signals from Yubileiny. I found it on that well konw source of reliable information WIKIPEDIA The satellite will broadcast audio and video about the history of the Soviet and Russian space programmes, as well as signals imitating those broadcast by Sputnik 1.[2] These signals are intended for reciept by Amateur radio enthusiasts. 73 John G7HIA

Yubileiny RS30 telemetry

Just listened to RS30 for the first time on 435.315 ish There's an interesting data mode that follows the short periods of CW telemetry. It appears to comprise of data being transmitted at 4800 bps in some form of 'packet' at around 4 times a second. I'm not good with data modes but that's an assumption based on a transmission which has a carrier in the center with peaks of energy at plus and minus 2400 Hz but with the whole 4800 bandwidth occupied. Does that sound right? (Recorded using spectran) As the signal is transmitted you can count another 'rate' which works out at 250mS. Too wide for my radio on SSB. If it's a picture, I wonder how it's decoded? There's an overhead pass in Europe with AOS at 17.09 and LOS at 17.32. Will try FM next time. David G0MRF

I estimate that the central carrier was pulsing at 4 times/sec, if these figures sound familiar to anybody please let me know! I sugegst that the modifications to temperatures and voltages ( -100 and /100) in RS22 may not apply to RS30 ?? Field Day Rules ARRL -vs.- AMSAT

The ARRL Field Day rules regarding satellites are difficult for me to understand. I asked for a clarification of the one contact FM bird rule and did not hear what I expected. What they mean is "one contact per FM voice satellite" For example: if AO-51 is running VU and LS you get one contact, not one on each transponder. (The opposite of AMSAT I believe) I believe there are more differences; On AO-7 where working a station in mode A and then working it again in mode B would be two contacts for AMSAT, but a dupe for ARRL. In fact working a station on AO-7 (either transponder) and then on VO-52 is a dupe in the ARRL (but not AMSAT) rules as "Satellite" is a single band in the eyes of the ARRL. I'm trying to stay out of trouble this year, so if anyone has any additional clarifications please let me know, or if you know this to be wrong let me know. Thanks and 73, Joe kk0sd

Yubileiny switched on when about 10 degrees elevation from northern Russia, with intermittent FM bursts of a few hundred ms. Then a few second bleeeps reminiscent of WEFAX synch bleeps followed by continuous FM packet; could not decode the packet in WEFAX decoder however. Will try again with mixW. CW sent after the FM, seemingly on command: eauset 4 ix 544 avu 54 usun 1 isun 0 itxa 6 (fm key) *3 rs 30 us 164 ibs 76 (fm key) rs 30 (fm key) rs 30 us 162 ibs 12 (long fm data - gone). These are mostly the same as in RS22 (I've taken the decode from contributors to Mineo's web site). US seems to have replaced UBS in RS22 : On Board voltage /10 IBS On Board current /100 USUN Charge Voltage from solar battery/10 ISUN Charge current from solar battery /100 Amps ITXA DC Current of the Tx (it was 145 MHz tx in RS22) /100 A RS22 telemetry did not refer to: eauset ix avu however I recorded these from FM keying not cw so they could be incorrect. Therefore the values we definitely have are: On Board voltage /10 = 16.4 or 16.2 volts (my value yesterday was 16.3) On Board current /100 = .76 or .12 A (the letter seems low) Charge Voltage from solar battery/10 = 0.1 Volts (seems low) Charge current from solar battery /100 Amps = 0 DC Current of the Tx (it was the 145 MHz tx in RS22) /100 A = .006 This suggests she's not charging. 73 de andy, G0SFJ __________________________________________________________ Sent from Yahoo! YUBILEINYA : APT/WEFAX?

The cyclical tones I heard last night in usb mode resolved this morning on FM into: what sounded to me remarkably like APT or weather fax transmissions. No CW. Incidentally last night after "RS 30" she sent "US 163" then switched into this mode. She was southbound and west of Plesetsk, so already commanded on and sending a short series of these transmissions. If APT then my FM IF bandwidth would be insufficient I think. I checked the reason and found that the TLE of this sat in "CubeSats" on Celestrak is different from "Last 30 Days' Launches" on it. The former is object L and the latter is object C. Prior to the activation of this experiment packet telemetry had only been activated when the Cute1.7 + APD II cubesat was within range of the Japanese ground control station. Good signals from Yubileiny on the low elevation pass in range UK (IO92IO) 22:00 utc Saturday. Beacon switched to continuous tone only, as the satellite neared its most northerly point. I haven't checked the tlm decode so some of the above could be incorrect but that's what it sounded like to my ear. Each word had different contents. Very strong signal (using no pre-amp, 2x8 elements beam). Orbit 15, max 16 degrees elevation. Object B was perfect, tried C but that did not fit. Greetings All! Does anyone have any word regarding the final integration and actual launch dates for Phase 3-E? Was anything about Phase 3-D discussed at Dayton? Everything I'm reading on the AMSAT-DL Web site is devoid of any firm launch dates and the AMSAT-NA Web site simply says "January 2009". How firm is that date? Yubileinya - Rob G8ate's Keps are almost right - sending RS30 in CW on 435 314 (perhaps slightly up) plus carrier plus what could be sstv in usb mode.
