Did the telemetry system on this student build rocket include ham radio? Anyone know details? On the web page I can't find anything about the electronics. Bob EMBRY-RIDDLE GOES BALLISTIC Late last month students at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) sent a two-stage rocket into the upper atmosphere. With 3,500 pounds of thrust in the first stage and 900 pounds in the second, school officials said it set a student-built vehicle record of 37.8 miles (space normally begins at 62 miles). It was launched from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia and reached a top speed of Mach 4.04. The 16-foot-long rocket weighed 268 pounds gross and carried a 15-pound payload, including a telemetry system. RSGB Joint Response to EU Commission Galileo Green Paper

On Friday 6th April a joint response was submitted by RSGB, AMSAT-UK, UK Microwave Group and the British Amateur Television Club to the European Commission Green Paper on Satellite Navigation Applications. The Galileo Global Positioning System, expected to be fully operational between 2010-12, will make use of 1260-1300 MHz. This is a key segment of the Amateur 23cm band used for ATV, Repeaters, Satellites, EME and weak signal terrestrial communications. Hi Tim, I researched all the satellite radios before I bought one, and had one of the first 100 released to the market. It took a while to get the learning curve, but think this is one of the best Satellites radios out there, bar none, execellent, this is my opinion. Don't think you can go wrong with a 910H. I didn't need an HF radio as I already have one, just wanted a good satellite radio. The auction document makes no mention of whether the band below 2396MHz will still be available for use by the Amateur service; it merely states that the band 2396-2400MHz WILL be available to the amateur service. Could someone in NZ clarify the situation re. amateur use below 2396MHz? This auction does not directly impact users of the amateur satellite service which has an allocation 2400-2450MHz. The 13cms band is now getting very fragmented due to geographical restrictions as most EME'rs will testify. However, there is suggestion at IARU level that both the amateur service and the amateur satellite service should try and obtain a worldwide allocation of a few MHz of spectrum, on a primary basis if possible, between 2390 and 2400MHz. This will not be a quick process, but in the long term could be a major benefit to radio amateurs the world over if it could be achieved. regards Grant G8UBN

I am looking at putting an Icom Delta 100 triband transceiver up for sale soon. It covers 2m/70cm/23cm with triband receive. I am not sure exactly what it is worth. New Zealand 2.3 GHz Radio Frequency Auction In November 2006, the New Zealand Cabinet decided to reconfigure the 2.3 GHz spectrum rights and to allocate new rights by auction. The Government is planning to auction spectrum at 2.3 GHz in late May 2007. The rights expire in 2010 but some of the rights may be available for access before this date. The reallocation of the band will provide increased certainty for investment in new broadband wireless access services using this spectrum. The Ministry of Economic Development seeks any comment from industry on the proposal arrangements before they are finalised. Any comments must be submitted to the Ministry by 5:00pm on 27 April 2007.
